    Dagenham & Redbridge have signed midfielder Daniel Sparkes after he turned down a new contract at National League rivals Torquay United.

    Sparkes joined Torquay from Braintree in June 2016, and scored six goals in 35 league games last season.

    Twelve members of a London drugs gang that shipped large quantities of crack cocaine and heroin into Cornwall have been sentenced.

    The leader, Fidel Barzegar, called himself 'King Cornwall' and was jailed for six and a half years.

    He along with eight others, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

    Two pleaded guilty to allowing their premises to be used for drug dealing, and another man to money laundering.

    The gang drove the drugs to Cornwall where they used local drug addicts to help prepare and distribute them in Bodmin, St Austell, Camborne, Penzance and Truro.

    Det Sgt Daniel Bickford, from South West Regional Crime Unit said: “The sole purpose of the group’s criminal activity was to make money and in order to achieve this they preyed on vulnerable members of the Cornish communities by "cuckooing" their homes in order to deal drugs from."

    Response cars in Bodmin are now equipped with life-saving defibrillators thanks to the fundraising effort of the FLEET charity.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers will be able to use the devices prior to the arrival of the ambulance in the vital few minutes after a person has suffered a cardiac arrest. Previously they had to rely on their first aid training and the use of CPR."

    The defibrillators cost £1,200 each.

    Torquay United striker Brett Williams has confirmed he will leave the National League club this summer.

    The 29-year-old was the Gulls' top-scorer with 10 goals in 39 appearances last season, as they avoided relegation on the final day of the campaign, but he could not reach an agreement on a new deal.

    "I was told they could not offer me the contract I was on," Williams said via Twitter. "Therefore financially I could never stay, being so far from home."

    A man in his 50s has suffered burns to his leg after a caravan fire at Yealmpton Quarry in Devon.

    The fire is believed to have started accidentally and spread to two caravans being used as security offices at a boat storage area, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

    Two fire crews were sent from Greenbank just after 8:30am and firefighters gave first aid before an ambulance arrived.

    Do you fancy setting out on a mission to spot these beautiful little endangered sea birds for a research project?

    The RSPB is running a "Puffarazzi" project, or "Project Puffin, external" where it asks people to visit colonies this month and carefully photograph the birds feeding.

    There are four colonies off north Cornwall and Lundy off north Devon, and several in the Isles of Scilly.

    The charity says the birds are vulnerable to extinction and the project will help find out more about what puffins feed their chicks, where they go to find food and how their numbers are changing.

    Housing is a hot topic again as it was revealed just over seven and a half thousand new private homes were built in the South West last year compared to just 170 new council houses.

    The figures have come from the charity Shelter.

    One issue for all the political parties in the election is that many people are paying high rents and can't afford a deposit for a mortgage.

    Claire Baker from Devon has been trying to save a deposit to buy for ten years but can't.

    "We can afford a mortgage but can't get the mortgage... It makes me really angry," she said.

    There's been a large rise in the number of cyber-related child sex crimes here in the South West.

    Figures from the NSPCC show Devon and Cornwall police have tackled 17 cases already this year, compared to just one in 2015/16.

    Superintendent Steve Parker, Head of the Public Protection Unit at Devon and Cornwall Police, said the rise is in line with the national picture.

    "We have a number of dedicated and highly trained officers and staff working within the Public Protection Unit who investigate these reports, tirelessly usually working alongside colleagues from local authority children's services and other partner agencies," he said.

    Twelve members of a drugs gang have been sentenced for supplying large amounts of crack cocaine and heroin into Cornwall over the course of a year.

    The drugs were driven from London and delivered to local dealers who helped distribute them in Bodmin, St Austell, Camborne, Penzance and Truro between September 2015 and October 2016.

    The gang leader, Fidel Barzegar, 23, who gave himself the title 'King Cornwall', was jailed for six-and-a-half years at Truro Crown Court.

    A dog has been safely reunited with his family after falling up to 60ft down a cliff near Brixham.

    Rolo, a chocolate Labrador, was saved after two coastguard rescue teams and an RNLI lifeboat were called.

    She was hauled up in a "dog rescue bag" on a line, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.

    The agency has urged owners to keeps their dogs on leads when they are walking near cliffs.

    Droppings from roosting pigeons on pavements in the centre of Redruth have become such a problem for some locals and business people that they're calling for action to deal with the issue.

    One hotspot is Bond Street railway bridge where a large flock of pigeons set up home nearly eight years ago. The mess they create can make the narrow pavements below treacherous for pedestrians, residents claim.

    Cornwall Council said it was "responsible for cleansing the streets and at present the area under the bridge on Bond Street is power washed on average once a week unless there is a particularly bad occurrence".

    The council said it had received three complaints in the last three years and would "continue to monitor the situation and react accordingly".

    The council added it does not maintain the bridge which is owned by Network Rail.

    Network Rail is yet to comment.

    Former England international Tom Johnson has retired after 10 years with Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs.

    The 34-year-old back row, who won eight caps for his country, was part of the Chiefs side that won promotion from the Championship in 2010.

    In a statement Devon and Cornwall Police have said: "At approximately 13:40 police search teams located the body of a man in Exeter Quay.

    "Cordons are in place in the area as recovery continues. Whilst at this time we are not in a position to confirm the identity of the body, the family of missing Exeter man Dex Johnston have been informed of this development."

    On 1 June 1967 the Cornwall Constabulary, Devon & Exeter Police and Plymouth City Police officially joined together.
