    A child who was reportedly hit by a coach has been taken to hospital as a "precaution", police have told the BBC.

    A spokesman said the child had a "small bump to the head".

    Police said they were called at about 11.55 to Wolseley Road, Plymouth, to a crash "reportedly involving a coach and a child".

    The child was taken to Derriford Hospital.

    The family of a young Devon man who's gone missing say they're suffering "every parents' worst nightmare" as they wait for news.

    Dex Johnston, 24, disappeared in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    Police say a fresh sighting of him was reported at about 03:50 on Sunday in Cowick Street and that enquiries were now focusing on that area.

    Dex's mother Allison Matthews said: "We are going through absolute complete and utter hell because it's not him. It's not something he would do and we know he wouldn't be away from us for this long".

    A Labrador has had a lucky escape after falling up to 60ft down a cliff face near Brixham.

    'Rolo' had to be retrieved by two coastguard teams including Torbay, external and Berry Head using a dog rescue bag. The RNLI Torbay Lifeboat was also involved in the search to find him.

    It happened earlier this week at Landscove Holiday Park. He's now safe and well and back with his owner.

    The Rugby Football Union says County Championship rugby will continue for at least four more years, amid reports that the competition could be scrapped.

    Cornwall have reached the final of the annual tournament five years running, winning the trophy in 2015 and 2016, but were beaten by Lancashire at Twickenham on Sunday.

    In a statement to BBC Radio Cornwall, the RFU said: "There are no plans to downscale the County Championships. This was reviewed two years ago, received strong support and remains an integral part of the playing calendar.

    "The four programmes - England Counties Under 18, England Counties Under 20, England Counties and England Students, will continue to operate throughout the next four years of the RFU strategic plan."

    There are reports of a child being hit by a coach on a main road in Plymouth.

    Police said they were called at around 11.55am to Wolseley Road to a crash "reportedly involving a coach and a child".

    The child was taken to the accident and emergency department at Derriford Hospital and the nature of their injuries are not known.

    Police said they had no further details of the crash but more information should follow.

    Two women with a combined age of 166 are retiring from the volunteer roles at a Devon RNLI base.

    Margaret Griffin and Biddy Midgley, both 83, manned the charity's Exmouth shop as well as stalls at outdoor events.

    Shop manager, Linda Cawsey, said they would be greatly missed.

    "Over their 23 years’ service, Margaret and Biddy have seen four inshore lifeboats, five all-weather lifeboats and a brand new lifeboat station," she said.

  8. Ducklings rescued from street drainpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Three ducklings have been rescued from a street drain after falling down it.

    Firefighters were alerted by the RSPCA and were called to Romilly Gardens, Plymouth, this morning.

    The ducklings were rescued from the drain and were taken to the nearest RSPCA centre to be cared for. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they were not injured.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash left one person in hospital with serious injuries.

    Officers were called to a single car crash on the A361 near Knowle just before 15:00 on Tuesday.

    Police said a silver Ford Mondeo heading in the direction of Braunton lost control on the exit to a bend, crossed the carriageway and went through a hedge.

    "The vehicle launched into the adjacent field where it came to rest," the force added.

    The female driver, a woman in her 60s suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.

    The number of reported sex crimes against children using the internet has risen dramatically in Cornwall and Devon, figures show.

    Just one crime was recorded in 2015/16 but that number rose to 17 last year.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say they're encouraged more victims are coming forward and they're continuing to work hard to support them.

    Peter Frost, from the NSPCC, said there are now so many different ways that children can be contacted online.

    "It can be chat rooms, it can be games that they're playing... and then obviously chat develops and possible meetings from that," he said.

    A man trapped under a car in Camborne has been rescued by fire crews.

    Firefighters said he became trapped under the car in a garage on Wednesday evening.

    Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service used "large air bags" to lift the vehicle off the man.

    He was left with ambulance crews. His condition is not known.

    Droppings from roosting pigeons on pavements in the centre of Redruth are becoming such a problem for some residents that they're calling for action to deal with the issue.

    It's claimed one hotspot is Bond Street railway bridge where a large flock of pigeons set up home nearly eight years ago.

    Paul Thomas who runs a garage nearby said: "Old people are having to traverse the pavement, in danger of slipping on pigeon poo".

    Network Rail and Cornwall Council are yet to comment.

    This was the moment it was rescued along with two of its friends after falling in a slurry pit.
