    Jenny Walrond
    Health Correspondent, BBC Spotlight

A review into Devon's hospital services acknowledges that retaining emergency, maternity, neonatal and paediatric units at all four of Devon's hospitals - in Barnstaple, Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay - will be a challenge and further work is needed to ensure safe and resilient expertise is available day and night.

Demand for health services in Devon has risen by 50% in a decade, according to the Acute Services Review, published today.

Although it recommends hospitals retain the above facilities, a number of other services will see changes.

Among them, ENT [Ear, Nose & Throat] is recommended to operate from Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth, with a satellite service for north Devon. Neurology, which some people are waiting more than a year for, will be run through a Devon-wide referral system.

The review warns of "huge challenges" ahead for the NHS.
