Ben Walton, 49, from Devon has been jailed for life and told he will serve at least 30 years in prison for the murder of Karl Bunster.

Mr Bunster, 37, from Hastings, was last seen in Mann Street on 17 December 2015 and his body has never been found.

Stacey McClymont, 29, of Cowick Hill, Exeter, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

McCymont was given a two year prison sentence at the hearing at Croydon Crown Court.

A police drugs sniffer dog has uncovered a stash of cash and drugs hidden in a plug socket during a property raid in Cornwall.

Police dog Jet indicated he suspected something was inside the socket during a property search under warrant yesterday.

It turned out to be a safe holding a large amount of heroin.

Police were called to reports that a Vauxhall Vectra car travelling towards Barnstaple was involved in a collision with a Ford Ranger 4x4 towing a trailer travelling in the opposite direction.

The Vauxhall driver, a woman in her 30s, along with a seven-year-old child and Keira all had serious injuries. Keira's mother and brother remain in hospital.

The driver of the Ford Ranger had minor injuries and has been released from hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses.

A youth club in Plymouth that was facing closure has been given a reprieve thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The youngsters at the Space Shot Youth Project in Ernesettle use the sessions as a chance to make friends and access support.

Lottery funding ran out earlier this year and the community stepped in to help raise the £35,000 needed for the project to continue to help young people turn their lives around.

Prisoners' paintings will be up for sale as part of a professional art exhibition in Tavistock Town Hall today.

The pictures, produced by Dartmoor inmates are being shown by a cooperative of artists called Drawn to the Valley.

None of the pieces will cost more than £40 and each inmate won't get the money until they're out of jail.

Torridge Council has warned residents after complaints of scammers targeting people in the area.

Several people have reported receiving phone calls from people claiming to represent the council.

The current scam appears to involve residents being told they are due back-dated council tax refunds over many years amounting to several thousand pounds.

The hoaxer then asks for their bank details to process the fictitious refund.

Councillor David Hurley said: "It is regrettable that fraudsters continue to target our residents with scams aimed at stealing money from them.

"The advice is to remain vigilant and if people have any doubts at all about the credibility of any caller they should check first and never reveal financial information to someone they don’t know or can't verify."

The Shetland Islands had more sunshine than Cornwall in July, despite being more than 700 miles further north.

It is only the eighth time this has happened since records began in 1929.

Met Office statistics showed the Shetland area had 192.9 hours of sunshine from 1-29 July, while Cornwall had 153.5 hours.

It was a wet month for the UK as a whole, with 22% more than the average rainfall for July.

Properties were damaged and people had to be rescued after heavy rain and storms hit the Cornish village of Coverack.
