  1. Thirteen-year-old charged after school 'knife incident'published at 13:48

    A 13-year-old girl has appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court charged with knife-related offences allegedly carried out during an incident at Penair School in Truro.

    The charges against the girl include: possession of an offensive weapon on school grounds, making threats to kill, assault and causing criminal damage.

    Police were called to the school on Monday afternoon.

    The case will be heard at a youth court on a date to be decided.

    England's World Cup-winning cricket captain Heather Knight has returned to her old school in Plymouth this morning.

    Knight, who helped England lift the World Cup earlier this summer, gave a coaching session to Year Five pupils at Elburton Primary School as part of the Chance to Shine programme.

    Heather, who leaves for Australia later this week, where England hope to regain the Ashes, said it was great to be back on her old stomping ground.

    A three-year-old girl has received a special award for her bravery in fighting cancer.

    Rose Lucking-Elhitmi, from Copplestone in Devon, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer, when she was six months old.

    Doctors picked up on the cancer when her grandfather noticed something odd in a picture of Rose.

    The latest sighting this morning of a Portuguese man-of-war, photographed at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, is the latest in an invasion of potentially fatal jellyfish-like creatures which has spread along the English Channel.

    Another of the creatures was reported washed up on Downderry beach, Seaton, yesterday.

    They add to the greatest number of man-of-war recorded in the UK since records began in 2003.

    They were first spotted in Cornwall and have been seen as far east as Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire.

    The Marine Conservation Society said it had received reports of more than 2,000 of the organisms, which have long purple tentacles.

    Officers said on Facebook, external that the King's Cinema in Fore Street was broken into and a quantity of cash stolen "sometime overnight".

    They have appealed for witnesses and information.

    It's being run by the Farm Safety Foundation and aims to help improve safety for all new students studying agriculture.

    An invasion of potentially fatal jellyfish-like creatures has spread along the English Channel.

    It amounts to the greatest number of Portuguese man-of-war recorded in the UK since records began in 2003, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) said.

    They were first spotted in Cornwall and have been seen as far east as Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire.

    The MCS said it had received reports of more than 2,000 of the organisms, which have long purple tentacles.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said they were made aware of a pupil bringing in a knife to Penair School in Truro on Tuesday afternoon.

    The girl is due before magistrates in Truro later.

    Police are continuing to question a 21-year-old man from Redruth in custody who was arrested under the Explosives Act.

    Officers were called to reports of a small explosion in the town on Sunday night, and cordons were set up yesterday whilst an explosive ordnance device team assessed the scene.

    The incident's not believed to be related to terrorism.

    Five fire crews have put out a barn fire in Pancrasweek, near Holsworthy.

    The agricultural building and workshop was severely damaged by the heat and smoke from the fire, which broke out shortly after 20:30 last night, firefighters said.
