    A 29-year-old man from Ivybridge with learning difficulties who was reported missing has been found.

    Peter Gunning was reported missing at 19:30 on Tuesday.

    Devon and Cornwall Police tweeted he was found "safe and sound".

    A pair of short-beaked common dolphins have been found dead at Duporth near Charlestown.

    Both had their tails missing and the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme says they were probably killed by a fishing trawler.

    The bodies were found on Monday and their autopsies were carried out on Tuesday by a pathologist from the University of Exeter and volunteers from the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network.

    Devon's annual Pirate Festival will not be taking place this year.

    Chairman Pete Beresford says he and his committee have not been able to raise enough money to put the event on in Brixham in May.

    Mr Beresford says they need £30,000 to hold the festival but they cannot sell tickets because it is held on public land.

    He says the Brixham Chamber of Commerce has also not been able to donate any money to the event this year because of "poor market revenue".

    Mr Beresford said: "My heartfelt apologies go to all our loyal supporters, who have booked to attend the festival and were looking forward to another wonderful weekend in 2018."

    The event has been held for the past 10 years on the first bank holiday of the year.

    Devon and Cornwall Police have deployed a new weapon in the battle against speeding motorists.

    Infrared lighting will allow roadside speed detection cameras to work in low light.

    The force hopes the technology could help to reduce the number collisions caused by speeding in places like Bodmin.

    A hearing charity says it is worried that hearing aids could be rationed because of pressure on NHS finances.

    Health commissioners in the South West have now considered stricter tests three times in recent years but the idea has been rejected each time.

    The group Action on Hearing Loss said it was particularly concerned about the region.

    Chief Executive Paul Breckell said hearing aids should be high on the list of NHS priorities.

    Bad weather overnight has caused damage across the county, including to Truro Bus Station, which has been closed for safety reasons.

    Strong winds caused the roof on a neighbouring building to become unstable.

    A Plymouth University academic is "sceptical" a substance found on a Devon beach is a valuable whale dung stone.

    Jack Tipper, 39, made the discovery of the waxy, yellow substance known as ambergris, in Ilfracombe.

    Professor Steve Rowland said that there have been "no verified samples from the South West".

    "We've had a lot recently which were not ambergris, but palm oil, paraffin wax, or fat of various types."

    The substance takes years to form and is thought to protect the whales from the hard and sharp objects they swallow.

    Devon and Cornwall Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a fatal crash on the A38 on Boxing Day.

    The force confirmed the driver of the Red Renault Clio, from Plymouth, died yesterday as a result of his injuries., external

    A man has died following a crash on the A38 on Boxing Day.

    The Plymouth man, in his 20s, was travelling on the Exeter-bound carriageway between Rattery and Buckfastleigh when his car left the road during heavy rain, police said.

    A woman in her 60s remains in a "critical condition" in hospital after a crash on the A38, police say., external

    Officers were called to a head-on collision between a Renault estate and an Audi A4 between Tideford and Saltash at about 14:15 on Tuesday.

    The driver of the Renault was "seriously injured" and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance, where she remains.

    The A38 was closed in both directions between Liskeard and Carkeel into the evening for investigation work to take place. Police thanked road users for their patience.

    Any witnesses are being asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police.
