    Penrose

Three sections of coast path have been closed because of rockfalls - including one which has affected Mullion Harbour, in Cornwall.

Experts said it had been a particularly "bad" winter for rockfalls.

Mullion Harbour, Kennack Sands and the coast path between Loe Bar and Porthleven remain closed.

As a result, The National Trust is considering re-routing some Cornish coast paths inland, to avoid future storm damage.

Justin Whitehouse, from the trust, said: ''There's evidence it's starting to get worse, with poor weather, more rainfall and harsher storms.

"People come here in the summer to enjoy the landscape and the coast paths and so on, but all winter there are teams keeping the footpaths open and clearing the mess.

"At the end of the day we are a charity and that is what the money we raise goes towards - great access to the countryside comes at a cost.''

    Confined space emergency service training

Emergency services in the South West have teamed up to share skills, in the hope they will be better prepared for the dangers they face while carrying out their duties.

Matt Herdman, from Devon and Somerset Fire Service, said: "We were in situations where we were probably putting paramedics at risk to give the best outcome to the casualty.

"Now we're in a position where actually everyone's trained for that environment."

One of the fire service's specialist teams, the Confined Spaces team, are training and being trained by paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service.

Previously, in hazardous environments such as collapsed buildings or quarry rescues, paramedics were treated as if they were civilians rather than trained individuals.
