    Snow showers are likely to affect parts of the south west from Tuesday morning.

    The Met Office has issued a weather warning, external from 05:00 on Tuesday to last until 09:00 on Wednesday.

    It said: "Snow showers are likely to affect the west of the UK, with icy stretches developing overnight. Some transport disruption is possible, with longer journey times and delays to public transport.

    "Icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, leading to an increased risk of injury from slips, trips and falls."

    The RMT union has confirmed that its members on South Western Railway will be taking further industrial action this month, external.

    The strike is to take place between Friday 16 and Monday 19 February in a dispute over safety, the roles of guards and driver only trains.

    A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "We will do everything we can to minimise the inconvenience to our passengers from this unnecessary action."

    South Western Railway has a service which runs from Exeter St Davids to London Waterloo, stopping at Axminster, Honiton, Feniton, Whimple, Cranbrook, Pinhoe and Exeter Central in Devon.

    Plymouth-born Tom Daley and Matthew Dixon have both been selected to dive for England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

    Reigning world 10m champion Daley will be joined by Dixon who won the British 10m title last week in Daley's absence.

    Daley has won individual gold in the 10m at the last two Commonwealth Games, as well as synchro gold and silver; while Dixon, 17, made the final four years ago in Glasgow when he was England's youngest team member.

    Two former Plymouth Diving Club divers, Dan Goodfellow and Robyn Birch, have also been picked to represent England on the Gold Coast.

    British Transport Police have launched an investigation after two push bikes were thrown on to one of Devon's main railway lines.

    The incident took place on the Exeter to London Waterloo route at Axminster on Saturday.

    Police said the "incredibly dangerous" actions could have derailed a train.

    Growth in the South West's construction industry is expected to be faster than the rest of the country, according to the latest forecasts.

    The Construction Industry Training Board, external predicts 2% average annual growth in Devon and Cornwall, compared to the UK average of 1.3%.

    It could mean 22,000 extra jobs over the next five years, with plasterers, bricklayers and roofers being in highest demand.

    A motorcyclist in his 30s has died after he collided with a van on Bodmin Road in St Austell on Friday.

    The incident happened at about 14:20 on the B3274 between St Austell and Trethowel.

    The male rider died, and a woman who was riding pillion on the Ducati motorcycle was injured and taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

    The driver of the van was uninjured.

    The road was closed for about seven hours while police dealt with the incident.

    GPs are leaving the profession at an increasing rate because they feel "undervalued", fuelling what the British Medical Association (BMA) has described as a "crisis".

    Research by the University of Exeter Medical School, external has found GPs are "fed up" with "unlimited demands" on them.

    Doctors spoke of concerns about the risk of litigation and problems with their own health due to work pressures.

    The government says it has committed to an extra 5,000 GPs by 2020.

    Exeter's Sam Simmonds scored two tries on his Six Nations debut as England beat Italy 46-15 in Rome.

    The 23-year-old was one of four Chiefs players to feature, with Jack Nowell scoring a try after coming on as a replacement.

    Prop Alec Hepburn made his England debut from the bench, while Harry Williams also came on in the second half.

    The win puts England on top of the Six Nations standings ahead of next week's game with Wales at Twickenham.

    A charity has bit back at calls to clear Torquay’s streets of ‘intimidating’ rough sleepers and beggars, external and at the personal attack on its founder.

    The chairman of Torquay Chamber of Commerce, Susie Colley, claims the town could be ‘doomed’ unless the numbers of rough sleepers and beggars is not permanently addressed.

    And she points the finger squarely at Ellie Waugh who runs the Humanity Torbay homeless charity which is based near Torquay Town Hall.

    Mrs Waugh says people are 'horrified' by Mrs Colley’s claims that since Humanity Torbay opened its drop-in centre there has been a 10 per cent increase in those looking for food and accommodation, begging and rough sleeping in the town centre.
