    A lorry driver is believed to have suffered "potentially serious injuries" after their vehicle crashed into the central reservation of the A38 in Plymouth, police say.

    The A38 close to the Marsh Mills flyover has been closed after the crash which involved what police described as a "small lorry".

    Emergency services were called to the scene just before 09:00. An air ambulance has been dispatched.

    Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

    The A38 Plymouth Parkway slip road, which joins Marsh Mills to the Leigham roundabout, has been closed in both directions after a vehicle crashed into the central reservation.

    Police said they received reports just before 09:00 "of a small lorry having collided with the central reservation on the A38".

    An air ambulance has been called.

    Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

  6. Exeter's Topsham Road still closed after water main burstpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    Topsham Road in Exeter remains closed between Burnthouse Lane and Countess Wear due to a water main bursting on Monday, damaging the road surface.

    The road is expected to be closed until this afternoon. Diversions are in place and there is very heavy traffic as a result.

    There is still access to the nearby crematorium from the city side of Topsham Road, but not the Countess Wear side.

    People should allow extra times for their journeys.

    A chandelier from the 1800s has been brought back to its former glory in east Devon.

    All 2,500 pieces of the chandelier in the Friends of Sidholme Music Room in Sidmouth have been cleaned and put back together during a painstaking process by a company which mends them for the Queen.

    The reassembly has been likened to putting together a giant, fragile, complicated jigsaw puzzle.

    The completed chandelier is estimated to weigh about 200kg.

    The Friends of Sidholme Music Room, external raised £30,000 to cover the work.

    Fire crews from north Devon have dealt with a fire on Exmoor.

    Crews from South Molton and Barnstaple were called to the scene near North Radworthy, in Somerset, at about 18:35 on Monday after "multiple calls" of a large fire. They were joined by a crew from Porlock.

    Crews dealt with three fire fronts with a total length of about a mile-and-a-half, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said, external.

    A campaign has started in Plymouth to try to bring back to life a mural by the renowned local artist Robert Lenkiewicz, which has deteriorated in recent decades.

    Reuben Lenkiewicz, who is one of the late artist's sons, is trying to raise money for new a feasibility study into having this 1970s painting restored.

    A report in 2015 concluded that it would be too difficult to restore the original artwork given the state of the wall in the Barbican.

    Commuters in Exeter are being warned to expect disruption this morning as Topsham Road remains closed because of a burst water main.

    Engineers have been working to carry out emergency repairs overnight but the work is expected to continue this morning.

    The road is closed between Burnthouse Lane and School Lane. Diversions are in place.

    Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday, accompanied by very low temperatures.

    There is the potential for travel delays on roads, with some stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

    Some rural communities could become cut off. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.

    Dredging from a marina in Exmouth is being halted after sands on Teignmouth's beach turned black at the weekend.

    The contamination was a shock to local residents and businesses ahead of the all-important Easter break.

    The town has worked hard to drive up bathing water quality standards in recent years but local people were annoyed when the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) granted a licence for the disposal of thousands of tonnes of silt from the marina in Exmouth close to their beach.

    The MMO said it was suspending the licence "relating to the dredging of Exmouth Marina and disposal of materials at the Sprey Point site".

    It added: "The suspension will be active immediately once the notice is served on the licence holder."

    Heavy seas have washed away most of the black silt in the meantime.

    Cornwall Council staff say they are on standby to deal with problems caused by any snow and sub-zero temperatures over the next few days.

    Yellow weather warnings for snow, external are in place for Cornwall on Wednesday and Thursday.

    The council’s emergency management service is observing the weather and liaising with other services and partner agencies "to respond should the situation deteriorate".

    The council said highways contractor Cormac had about 16,000 tonnes of salt available for use on roads and precautionary salting was already taking place across 25 routes.

    Cabinet member Councillor Geoff Brown warned that people "should avoid travelling in really bad weather if their journey is not essential".

    The authority said it was also ensuring adult social care staff were working with partners "so that vulnerable members of the local communities receive the support needed during this period".
