    Highways England have said all of those people stranded on the A38, A380 and A30 last night following the treacherous weather conditions are now safe.

    Emergency services helped them to either get home or to get to refuge points set up by local councils in areas such as Okehampton and Chudleigh.

    Many rescues were performed on foot, or by using 4x4 vehicles.

    The A38 remains closed.

    Flooding and Debris is blocking the rail line at Dawlish, Network Rail has said.

    All Great Western Railway and CrossCountry services have been suspended due to "significant damage".

    Network Rail added that there will be a flood assessment at 10:00 but it is unlikely any trains will be running before lunch "at the least".

    All Great Western Railway and CrossCountry train services in the South West have been suspended due to "significant damage" on the rail line at Dawlish.

  7. Almost 4,000 properties across the region without powerpublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

    Almost 4,000 properties are without power in the South West, according to Western Power Distribution.

    As of 08:00, the company was reporting 33 incidents, which in total amounted to 3,999 properties without power due to issues caused by Storm Emma.

    Western Power Distribution said: "engineers are working to fix it", but they are unsure as to when the power will be restored.

    Investigations continue today into the death of a seven-year-old girl after a car crash in Looe on Thursday.

    It happened at about 14:30 on Bodrigan Road when a Nissan car crashed into a house.

    The girl, who was understood to have been on the pavement at the time of the crash, died at the scene.

    A "significant water leak from a burst pipe" has forced the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth to close today.

    The A38 Haldon Hill is open between Kennford and Chudleigh but conditions remain very poor

    • On the A38 at Marley Head stationery traffic and drivers are stuck in their vehicles
    • The A30 around Sourton remains blocked
    • The A380 Telegraph Hill is still closed between the Splatford Split and Kingsteignton
    • Near Ilfracombe the A361 is blocked around the Mullacott Cross Roundabout
    • On the A379 between Shaldon and Teignmouth is open, but conditions are poor
    • On the A385 between Paignton and Totnes we have reports of two abandoned articulated lorries blocking the road
    • The Dartmouth Higher Ferry has suspended services
    • On the trains there's disruption to most services. Great Western Railway is advising customers not to travel on many of its routes. There are no CrossCountry trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Plymouth passengers should check with their rail company throughout the day before travelling
    • In Plymouth, all Falcon and Megabus services are suspended until later this morning
    • Plymouth Citybus is operating a very limited service
    • Stagecoach services across North Devon are currently suspended due to adverse weather conditions. They will tweet, external regular updates
    • The following Stagecoach services are not operating until further notice: 1 / 3/ 48/ 36/ 90/ X64/ X38/ Gold.
    • Exeter Airport is closed
    • Traffic is moving well on the Tamar Bridge but there are very strong gusty winds so drive with care - There's a 10-minute wait with three ferries currently running between Torpoint and Devonport

    Melting snow and high tides have combined to cause minor flooding in Porthallow, Cornwall.

    Cornwall Councillor Geoff Brown said: "High water has come and gone without major incident but some flooding in Porthallow - five house affected."

    He also confirmed coastguard and police were at the scene, and no-one was being evacuated.

    All Flybe operated flights have been cancelled at Exeter Airport until 06:30 on Saturday.

    It is due to the adverse weather that is being experienced and predicted over the next few days with the potential to impact travel across large parts of the UK, Flybe said.

    With emergency services struggling to navigate the icy conditions as much as members of the public, fire crews across the region have been stepping in to help - even when helping is giving bullocks water.

    In a list published today, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said that among other callouts, firefighters assisted other emergency services with the following:

    • In Paignton, two people were taken to Newton Abbot hospital for medication after flagging down the fire engine.
    • In Taunton, one disabled man and his carer were taken to safety after getting stuck in the snow.
    • In Chulmleigh, they transported a patient suffering an anaphylactic reaction along with a paramedic.
    • In Crediton, where a farmer's water was frozen, they gave water to bullocks.

    Across the region, emergency services are requesting that people do not travel unless absolutely necessary.

    Neighbours living on a road where a young girl died in Cornwall have described conditions as "extremely dangerous".

    East Devon District Council has tweeted to reiterate Met Office, police and highways bosses advice to avoid travelling this morning.
