  1. Torquay and Plymouth talent bring home the Oscarspublished at 08:08 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2018

    There's been Devon success at the Oscars, with Torquay's Roger Deakins celebrating after winning an award for his work on Hollywood science fiction film Blade Runner 2049.

    Roger, who's from Torquay, won the Oscar for best cinematographer.

    Also at the ceremony, the film "The Silent Child", starring profoundly deaf Maisie Sly - a six-year-old from Plymouth, also an award. It was named best live action short film.

    We've had a chat with her dad, which we'll show you later.

    Two more school closures have been announced in Devon due to water supply problems.

    Route 39 Academy in Clovelly is closed as it has no supply, and Silverton Church of England Primary School, north of Exeter, is also shut.

    Exwick Heights School in Exeter earlier confirmed it was closed until lunch time due to a "significant water leak" in the area.

    There has been an "unprecedented number" of burst water mains following the severest weather in the region for many years", South West Water, external says.

    The company said bursts are affecting customers in the Exwick region of Exeter, where customers may be experiencing interruptions to their water supplies.

    Customers are advised that bottled water is available from several locations locally, and will be delivered to vulnerable customers.

    Those in the area who do have water are being urged to save some until normal service resumed and check that their garden taps are turned off.

    Joss Stone has been on a world tour with a difference - trying to play gigs in as many countries as she can.

    The Devon singer has played in more than 130 countries and has been trying to offer help to charities in each.

    In Djibouti, she was asked for help sourcing instruments, and turned to a woman from Bristol for help.

    An 81-year-old man has died after a serious crash in the Saltash area, police have said, external.

    It happened at about 16:25 on Saturday on St Stephen's Road.

    The crash involved a silver Peugeot multi-purpose vehicle.

  8. School shut after 'significant water leak'published at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2018

    Exwick Heights School in Exeter has confirmed it will be closed until lunch time due to a "significant water leak" in the area.

    It will remain shut until 13:00 for health and safety but the situation will be reviewed at 11:00 and parents will be updated.

    The school has apologised for the "inconvenience this will have caused".

    South West Water says it hopes to restore supplies to thousands of homes in Devon during the course of today.

    Engineers have been working to repair pipes which burst after the cold snap.

    At Bradworthy in North Devon, supplies have now been restored after locals went without water for several days.

    Bowsers were brought in to ensure people living in the area had access to water.

    Meanwhile, bottled water is being provided to customers in Exwick due to a number of bursts there in the following postcode areas:

    The company said on Sunday night: "We are very aware that some of our customers have already experienced interruptions to their water supplies caused by burst mains which we are managing to repair.

    "But, due to the large number of bursts, it is making progress slow."

    The utility has provided alternative water supplies at locations in the Bradworthy, Kilkhampton, Woolfardisworthy and Hartland areas.

    It added: "We have identified bursts in and around Exeter as the snow has melted."

    The company said it had been working through the night to make repairs.
