    BBC News Online

A Cornish MP is hopeful the government will put £3m into the pot for the proposed Stadium for Cornwall.

Conservative Derek Thomas says he's confident from talks he's held the money could be added.

It would help plug a £6m shortfall in the project that Cornwall Council cabinet is set to vote on next week.

Mr Thomas says there is "no reason Cornwall should be left behind".

"What the government has invited is to put a business case forward so I've asked the council to do that."

Earlier this year, Truro City chairman Peter Masters said Cornwall would be a "laughing stock" if £6m of public money isn't found to fund it. The government is yet to comment.

Sally Henley, the town centre development manager, said she was "concerned" about the loss of more than 50 parking spaces.

"There are already concerns that parking provision within the town is insufficient for current usage and particularly in view of the thousands of new homes planned for the town, parking will become even more critical."

However, the report recommending approval says there is "no evidence to support this" and that the parking spaces in question are in private ownership and "do not affect the council's town centre parking provision".
