    A man has been seriously injured after a dumper truck overturned in Coverack on the Lizard.

    Devon and Cornwall Police, external say it happened at 15:25 on Tuesday near North Corner, leaving a 47-year-old with serious injuries.

    He was airlifted from the scene by air ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

    Officers say there may have been a dog running loose at the time of the accident and would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision.

    A school near Bude has been closed for the day after a fire in the boiler room.

    Fire crews were called, external to Marhamchurch primary school at around 08:20, before the pupils had arrived.

    A statement on the school website, external says it will be reopening tomorrow: "We are now safe to to return with electricity and heating working again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

    The family of seven-year-old Maisie Duncan who died in a road accident in Looe earlier this month have said she was "the life and soul of the party".

    Town mayor Armand Toms read out a statement on behalf of the family at Maisie's funeral, which has been held today at St Martin's Church.

    The statement said: "We are all so proud of who she was as a person; never a bad word to say about anyone, and always trying to find a way to help."

    "Maisie Moo will always be our hero, we envy her bravery, her skills to find good in every situation, her ability to make someone smile with just a little grin on her face.

    "The memory of Maisie will be preserved as a perfect, innocent heart forever."

    Local people lined the streets in silence to pay their respects as the funeral procession passed through the town.

    The opening date for the new Ikea store in Exeter has been pushed back after recent "extreme weather conditions", the company has said.

    It was originally due to open on 1 May but will now open nine days later on 10 May.

    The company said it made the decision to "ensure the safety of its team" after pausing all building work until conditions improved.

    The Exeter store will be the 21st Ikea store in the UK and will create 350 local jobs.

    A homeless dog that was taken in by the Dogs Trust has been identified as Beyoncé from her microchip.

    The Ilfracombe branch of the charity said the four-year-old Akita is now looking for a new home.

    Despite her superstar name, the charity's team say she isn't making too many diva demands.

    Rehoming manager Elise Watson said: “When Beyoncé arrived, we could tell she was going to be a little celebrity, but when we learnt that she shared her name with an international superstar, we couldn’t believe it!

    "So far the diva demands have included lots of fuss and playtime in the paddocks which we’re always happy to help with. She does enjoy posing for a photo or two and everyone is crazy in love with her fun-loving nature."

    A cleaner from Tiverton has won £168,751 after picking five winners at Cheltenham.

    Father-of-two Martin Palk's £62 bet also means seven of his friends will be heading to Las Vegas as he promised them the trip if the horse in his last selection won.

    Mr Palk, 55, said it was "a bit of banter" but he will keep his promise.

    "I’m a man of my word so the Magnificent Seven are off to the Strip. It will cost me £10,000 and I’ve told them they can bring their own spending money.

    “They were all cheering but I went as white as a sheet - I just couldn’t believe it and still can’t."

    The lawyer of serving police officer, Ryan Canning - who has been cleared of raping a woman he met on a dating site - says his client is a "greatly relieved man".

    Mr Canning, 44, of Burraton Combe near Saltash denied the accusation that he forced himself on the woman at his home in 2014.

    It took the jury at Truro Crown Court just under 90 minutes to find him not guilty.

    His lawyer Kevin Hopper said he was "extremely relieved".

    "What happens from here obviously depends on the Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer and negotiations with the Police Federation."

    Devon and Cornwall Police suspended Mr Canning from duty at the start of the investigation.

    A man has injuries to his back, arms and legs after a suspected knife attack in Exmouth.

    The 36-year-old was taken to hospital with non life-threatening or changing injuries.

    A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and later released under investigation pending further inquiries.

    Police were called to Beacon Hill at 01:00 on Tuesday following reports of an altercation.

    Officers added the men involved knew each other. Police are appealing for witnesses.

    A jury took 90 minutes to clear a serving policeman accused of raping a woman he met on an internet dating site.

    Ryan Canning, 44, of Burraton Combe near Saltash was accused of forcing himself on the woman at his home in 2014. He had denied the charge and was cleared by a jury at Truro Crown Court.

    The court heard the couple had met on the internet dating site Plenty of Fish and were on their third date.

    The woman had not reported the alleged rape. It was referred three years later by a police officer on her behalf.

    The woman told the court she had made it clear she was not going to have sex with Mr Canning. They both agreed they had been passionately kissing on the sofa and moved to the floor.

    She admitted he had not used any physical force against her and said she just froze.

    Mr Canning told the court: "We were two consenting adults having sex."

    Street lights across Devon are not coming on as expected because of the spring equinox, Devon County Council has said.

    The light control cells on the lamps are confused as the day and night periods are of equal length, and so the lights are coming on at the wrong time.

    The council says it might take "a day or two" for them to reset.

    The spring equinox was yesterday, 20 March, signalling the start of spring.
