    Work on the A30 in Cornwall faces an "unacceptable" three-week delay, according to Cornwall Council.

    The works contractor, Kier Group, says it is continuing to work with the council on a final schedule for completion.

    But it says it will open all lanes temporarily at Temple for Easter so traffic can run freely over the holidays.

    Geoff Brown, the Cornwall councillor responsible for transport, says the situation is "unacceptable".

    A Kier spokesman said: “The dualling of the A30 between Temple and Higher Carblake was opened to the public in July 2017. We have recently returned to the site to complete final snagging works and, despite the recent challenging weather, the traffic management will be removed tonight for the Easter break. We continue to work with the council to agree an appropriate schedule for full completion of these final works.”

    A vets clinic in Cornwall says it has treated a case of Alabama rot, external.

    The causes of the disease are not yet known but it is usually seen first as an unexplained skin sore, typically on the lower half of a limb, followed by sudden and rapid kidney failure.

    Writing on its Facebook page, Penmellyn Vets in St Columb Major said: "We are sad to announce we have recently treated a confirmed case of Cutaneous and Renal Glomerular Vasculopathy (CRGV, also known as Alabama rot) in one of our canine patients.

    "The area where this dog was exercised prior to falling ill was roughly within the triangle formed by the villages of Leedstown, Nancegollan and Praze-an-Beeble."

    There have been 152 cases confirmed in the UK since 2012, 29 of which were reported in 2018.

    Family helped by DIY SOS in Yealmpton

    A family are finally moving into their dream home thanks to the generosity of the local community and the BBC's DIY SOS team.

    Chris and Tara Morfey have five children, two of whom have cerebral palsy.

    They were in the middle of converting a house near Yealmpton, when one of their other children was diagnosed with cancer.

    The building project had to be abandoned as Chris and Tara concentrated on caring for their children.

    "The diagnosis of cancer in one of the twins was particularly hard to deal with and has resulted in the family being split up," said presenter Nick Knowles.

    "They had a dream to turn an old forge into a home they could all be in together and unfortunately, the daughter's not allowed to come home to an environment that's not clean and tidy.

    "So the family's been split up for nine months now. It would be nice if we could get them back together, and that's why the community's turned out."

    Devon and Cornwall Police needs to improve at investigating crime, reducing re-offending and protecting vulnerable people, a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services , externalreveals.

    However, it says, overall, the direction is positive and the force correctly concentrates resources both on higher risk victims and on the most harmful offenders. The report also says the force is good at preventing crime and tackling anti-social behaviour.

    Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said: “I am firmly committed to ensuring the most vulnerable and those needing the most dedicated police support in a time of need get the service they deserve.

    “Our force mission is to prevent harm, reduce crime and protect the vulnerable while safeguarding communities and providing a resilient policing service – I am confident we are doing this.”

    With Easter a week away, the race is on in the region to clear up some of the damage caused by recent storms ahead of the tourist season.

    In Torbay, there was damage at Shoalstone Pool, Goodrington and at Paignton's Geoplay Park.

    Torbay Council, businesses and local volunteers have been working hard to make sure the facilities in the area are ready for visitors.

    A huge hole has opened up under a pavement in Torquay.

    The hole is on Torbay Road outside the Livermead House Hotel.

    Torbay Council says there is a 75m lane closure which is causing traffic delays.

    A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed multiple times in Exeter this afternoon.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say one person has been arrested in connection with the incident in Summer Way at about 15:00. A vehicle has also been seized.

    The man's injuries are not believed to be serious.

    A bench with a poem inscribed on it has been unveiled to remember Caitlin Cook, a 20-year-old student at Falmouth University who took her own life last year.

    Family members, including her father, traveled from Derbyshire for the unveiling that was also attended by friends and fellow students.

    The family hopes to raise awareness for people with mental health concerns.

    The poem reads: "The past is history, the future a mystery, but we will hold dear our memories of her, her smile, the sound of her laughter...forever."
