    Police are concerned for the safety of a 46-year-old woman from east Cornwall, external.

    Jann Lewis was last seen in Downderry at 18:00 on Tuesday.

    Ms Lewis is described as 5ft 9in (1.8m) tall and of medium build, with shoulder length, light brown hair.

    She was wearing a blue top, blue jeans and flip-flops.

    Police are asking anyone who sees her to call 999.

    A body was recovered from the water near Fremington Quay in North Devon on Tuesday night.

    Witnesses say an area was cordoned off while several emergency vehicles attended.

    Police have not released any further details.

    Crews from Tavistock were called to assist ambulance staff after a man tripped and impaled his arm on a railing in Taylor Square just before 20:30. His condition is not known.

    Meanwhile firefighters from Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead released a man who was trapped after his vehicle overturned on a lane outside Bovey Tracey.

    Crews from Darmouth extinguished a small oven fire in a domestic kitchen in Bowcombe Road, Kingsbridge.

    Just before 22:00 appliances from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Totnes were called to a fire at a domestic outbuilding in the Hillfield area of Dartmouth. No-one was injured.

    Devon's cricketers were unable to break down Wales and claim a win in their opening Minor Counties Championhip match against Wales in Sandford.

    Somerset's Devon-born youngster Tom Lammonby became just the fourth batsmen to score more than 100 in both innings of a Devon game - the England Under 19 player hit 102 and 100 not out in his two visits to the crease.

    Zac Bess (116) and Josh Bess (04) also impressed as Devon declared their opening innings on 476-9 before Josh Bess took four wickets for 30 as Devon restricted the Welsh to 182 all out in reply.

    Lammonby's century was the highlight of an excellent second innings as Devon declared on 269-4 leaving Wales an improbably target of 563 to win.

    But their bowlers could not get a decisive final wicket as Wales ended the three-day game on 462-9 as former Cornwall player Brad Wadlan top-scored with 118.

    Police are searching for a 69-year-old woman with dementia, external after she went missing from an address in Paignton on Tuesday.

    Xelda Garner is described as being 5ft 6in (1.7m), of medium build and with dark, greying hair.

    She was wearing glasses, a purple, long-sleeved jumper, denim jeans and a white watch on her left wrist.

    Police are urging anyone who sees Ms Garner to contact them.

    The jailing of a gang who flooded Devon and Somerset with cannabis sends a strong message to those in organised crime "that they will be pursued and brought to justice", Devon and Cornwall Police say, external.

    Seven members of the group, aged between 21 and 72, were jailed at Exeter Crown Court on Monday, with the remaining three receiving suspended sentences or unpaid community work.

    The court heard that the drugs were delivered to "high-level dealers" in Exeter, Crediton and Tiverton in Devon and Wellington in Somerset before being distributed locally between last April and October.

    The sentencing was the culmination of Operation Corinth, led by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit.

    Cornwall's batsmen struggled as the Duchy suffered a 137-run defeat in their opening Minor Counties Championship match at Herefordshire.

    The home side's first innings of 289 all out did the damage as Cornwall could only respond with a score of 156 all out.

    Tom Dinnis did star with the ball for Cornwall as he took 5-39 to restrict Herefordshire to 152 all out in their second innings, but former Worcestershire player Matt Pardoe did even better with the ball as he took seven wickets for 34 runs as Cornwall's batsmen could only make 147 all out in their second innings.

    Their next championship match is their annual clash with Devon, which Cornwall will host at Werrington starting on 8 July.

    A fire on the verge of the A30 in Devon is believed to have been caused by a cigarette, police say.

    The blaze on the westbound carriageway of the road near Broadwoodwidger was put out by a fire crew from Cornwall.

    One lane of the road was closed while the fire was dealt with.

    Supt Ian Drummond-Smith, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "Please don’t discard your lit cigarettes, especially in this heat."

    The Royal Navy bomb squad is dealing with an unknown object found in the water in the Falmouth area.

    A Royal Navy spokeswoman said a civilian diver had found something and alerted authorities.

    The bomb squad will either dispose of the object at the scene, leave it where it is if it is harmless, or pick it up and take it away to a Royal Navy range in Cornwall to dispose of it.

  15. Cornwall and Devon can bid for £1bn affordable homes cashpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    The government has confirmed 23,000 new affordable homes will be delivered across England through a £1.7bn investment deal.

    That will include at least 12,500 social rent homes in high-cost areas.

    Communities Secretary James Brokenshire also confirmed councils could bid for a share of £1bn of extra borrowing to build houses.

    The money will be allocated to areas with the greatest pressure on affordability.

    Included in that list are: Cornwall; North, West, East and mid Devon, Plymouth, Exeter, the South Hams and Teignbridge.

    A young grey seal with a length of green rope knotted around his neck that wildlife experts are trying to trace has been spotted again off Cornwall.

    There are concerns Lucky Star, as the seal has been named, could be strangled as he grows bigger by what is thought to possibly be remnants of lost or discarded fishing equipment, or so-called ghost gear.

    He was first spotted on 17 May and has been spotted along the north Cornwall coast at Padstow, Portreath and St Ives. He was apparently seen off Godrevy on Tuesday, again off the north coast.

    Police in Penzance say they are making a "polite request" for people to park more considerately after a fire crew couldn't get through a narrow street.

    Officers said, external a fire engine had difficulty getting through narrow roads near St Mary's CofE, in Redinnick Place, having to just squeeze between parked vehicles and then having to "mount the pavement further up the road".

    They added: "Whilst we appreciate that parking in this area is at a premium, and it's sometimes hard to get a space, it doesn't excuse poor parking or leaving very little space for emergency vehicles to get through.

    "It delays response times to someone who is in need of help."
