A search is still ongoing for a young grey seal with a length of green rope knotted around his neck.

There are concerns Lucky Star, as the seal has been named, could be strangled as he grows bigger by what is thought to possibly be remnants of lost or discarded fishing equipment, or so-called ghost gear.

Lucky Star was first spotted on 17 May and has been spotted along the north Cornwall coast at Padstow, Portreath and St Ives.

Dan Jarvis (pictured), of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue group (BDMLR), who is routinely called out to reports of dolphin and porpoise strandings, said the situation was "a real worry".

We have one case study from several years ago where an animal of a similar sort of age lasted about 84 days entangled and then was, unfortunately, found dead. It's a real worry that this has been going on for quite some time and we’ve not been able to catch him so far."

Anyone who spots Lucky Star is asked to call BDMLR on 01825 765546, giving as precise a location as possible.

    BBC Radio Cornwall

Environmentalists have been against the scheme to transport stone from Dean Quarry (pictured), near St Keverne, to build the lagoon in Wales.

Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark said the £1.3bn project, planned for Swansea Bay, was not value for money.

That decision has been slammed by local politicians across the parties, including the Conservatives.

  9. Heathrow runway gets go aheadpublished at 07:44 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    BBC Radio Cornwall

The vote in favour was by a margin of more than three to one but legal challenges are now expected.

During the debate, the Conservative MP for St Austell and Newquay Steve Double, said he hoped an expanded Heathrow would run a direct route to Cornwall.

    Quote Message

At the moment we have a Gatwick link. The biggest number of overseas tourists to Cornwall come from Germany. Heathrow has five times more connections to Germany than Gatwick does and a direct connection from Cornwall to Heathrow would open up significantly more numbers of German tourists to be able to come and visit Cornwall."
