    Truro City centre-back Jamie Richards has agreed a new contract at Treyew Road.

    The 23-year-old, who has played more than 100 games for the National League South club, is now their longest-serving player.

    He joins winger Niall Thompson in agreeing a new contract, while City are still looking to replace goalkeeper Tom McHale and top-scorer Cody Cooke, who have both left the club.

    A Cornish amateur golfer is attempting to qualify for the Open Championship on Tuesday.

    Harry Hall, from Hayle, is at Prince's Golf Club in Kent.

    The University of Las Vegas student is attempting to gain one of 12 places that are available across four courses today.

    Tiverton golfer Harry Konig is also in the field at Prince's.

    A man is due to appear at court on Tuesday charged in connection with a serious assault in Exeter at the weekend.

    Police said the 31-year-old from Exeter will appear at the magsitrates' court in the city charged with grievous bodily harm.

    A 40-year-old man remains in hospital in Plymouth in a life-threatening condition after the incident on Saturday 30 June at about 23:00.

  5. Woman paid £5 for 'miracle' Trelawny coffin platepublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    A woman who found a precious coffin plate that had been stolen from a Cornish church in a charity shop in Norfolk paid just £5 for it, and that included also buying two books.

    The plate belonged to the coffin of Bishop Trelawny, the man behind Cornwall's unofficial anthem Trelawny, also called The Song of the Western Men.

    It was taken from St Nun's Church in Pelynt in September 2016, where it had been on display for 200 years.

    Reverend Marilyn Elliott said the fact it was being sold so cheap showed that "it might mean nothing to anybody else but it's part of Pelynt's heritage".

    A dairy in west Cornwall is using plastic milk bottles because it believes the environmental impact is less than with glass bottles.

    Trink dairy farm, near St Ives, sells bottles in three sizes, and they are fully recyclable - including the lids.

    It said glass bottles for their use would need to be transported 1700 miles, and require treatment at far higher temperatures, and therefore require more energy.

    Many firms across the UK have seen a surge in demand for milk in glass bottles since the start of 2018.

    Planning permission has been granted for a new home to be built despite evidence that the site is on a medieval graveyard.

    Cornwall Council's west sub-area planning committee gave outline agreement for the house to be built on land off Fore Street in Goldsithney.

    The site is on the east side of the former St James' Chapel and historic records show that it is on the same site as a medieval graveyard.

    The outline application is for a single house with all details of design to be subject to a subsequent reserved matters application.

    Under the conditions of the planning consent, the applicant will have to carry out archaeological work on the site before the development can start.

    A crackdown on drug dealers who exploit children is being launched today by Devon and Cornwall Police.

    Officers said gangs from other parts of the country were using young people or vulnerable adults to deliver and store drugs or money in rural areas.

    Cornwall Council is starting a three-month trial allowing pet dogs to accompany their owners onto the park and ride at Tregurra and Langarth, when they visit Truro.

    Guide dogs have always been allowed to accompany their owners on the buses since the park and ride first opened in 2008, but this is the first time owners of pets will also be allowed to take their dog aboard.

    It is hoped that the trial, if successful, will become permanent.
