    The woman, who is being named only as Susan, was left with "life-changing" injuries and airlifted to St Georges Hospital following the attack on Chesham Drive on 29 July. 

    Essex Police said the incident "particularly unusual with no clear motive".

    A 23-year-old man has denied murdering a man and woman found dead at a house in Stansted Mountfitchet.

    Gillian Phillips, 54, and David Oakes, 60, were discovered in Bentfield Gardens, on 22 July. Ms Phillips died from multiple stab wounds and Mr Oakes is believed to have died from head injuries.

    Brett Rogers, 23, of Bentfield Gardens, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court. He is due at the same court in February.

  8. Paris attacks: Book of condolence opened in Harlowpublished at 16:26

    A book of condolence has been opened in Harlow Civic Centre for local people to leave messages for those who died in Friday's Paris terror attacks.

    The messages will be sent to the Mayor of Harlow's French twinned town Velizy-Villacoublay, which is located nine miles from Paris.

  11. Paris attacks: Candlelit vigil to be held at Essex universitypublished at 15:42

    I'm on my way to the University of Essex, external in Wivenhoe, where there will be a candlelit vigil to remember the victims of Friday's terror attacks in Paris. 

    It has been organised by the university's French society, Frechnco. 

    A number of students and staff gathered on the campus at 11:00 this morning to observe a minute's silence.

    Essex Police, external says it is investigating after a homeless man was assaulted in Grays.

    The victim, in his 50s, was attacked while sitting outside Burger King in the town's High Street last Thursday evening. 

    He was left with a broken leg and facial injuries. Officers are now searching for three teenage suspects.

    A Weeley man who died in the Paris attacks "didn't stand a chance of getting out", according to one of his friends who had worked at the venue.

    Nick Alexander, 36, was selling merchandise in the Bataclan concert hall on Friday night when he was one of more than 80 people who were killed.

    His friend David Gray (pictured left) said it would have been difficult for him to escape: "It's in such a vulnerable position. It's one of the first things you see when you go in the front door."
