    Six men from Essex have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs after cocaine estimated to be worth more than £50m was found in a taxi near Tilbury docks in July:

    • Danny Hannaway, 24, Lea Road, Grays
    • Gregory Spiers, 47, London Road, Billericay

    • Neil Jacques, 41, Avondale Road, Rayleigh

    They are due to stand trial at Woolwich Crown Court in January.

    Today I've been in Clacton where a minute's silence was observed at the town hall in remembrance of the victims killed or hurt in the Paris attacks.

    The union jack here flies at half-mast. The council also tells me its offices at Weeley have also lowered the flag in remembrance ofNick Alexanderwho was from the village.

  6. France's Tricolore remains at half-mast over Colchesterpublished at 11:30

    The French flag remains at half-mast over Colchester Town Hall today in remembrance of Nick Alexander, from Weeley, who died in Friday's Paris attacks.

    The 36-year-old was killed at the Bataclan concert hall where he was selling merchandise for the band Eagles of Death Metal, external.

    Mr Alexander was a former pupil at the Colchester Royal Grammar School.

    A minute's silence has been staged outside Clacton Town Hall today to remember those who died or were injured in the terror attacks in Paris.

    The chairman of Tendring District Council, Fred Nicholls, led the silence and said it was particularly poignant as the first named British victim came from Weeley. 

    "This somehow makes it even more real for us in Tendring when one of our own was struck down in the attacks", Mr Nicholls said.

    Vigils continue to be held and public buildings around the world have been lit up in the colours of the French flag to honour the 129 people killed, including Nick Alexander from Weeley.

  14. Paris attacks: Reporter travelling to Clacton for minutes silencepublished at 10:05

    I'm on my way to Clacton-on-Sea where a minutes silence will be held in remembrance to the victims of the attacks in Paris on Friday.

    The marking of the silence will be particularly poignant here as one of the 132 people who died was Nick Alexander, 33, from Weeley.

    More tributes have been paid to Nick Alexander from Weeley, who died inside the Bataclan Theatre in Paris on Friday.

    A peer, who didn't want to be named, attended the Colchester Royal Grammar School with Mr Alexander and described him as "very witty".

    "I remember him as a music lover, never far from some headphones, friendly but private, largely kept himself to himself except around his close peers".

    The home secretary said yesterday "rigorous checks" were already in place to counter the security threat from Islamic State militants hiding among migrants coming to the UK.

    Mr Carswell told BBC Essex: "The victims of these terrorists are also Syrian, if we work with UN agencies it's possible to vet people properly".
