In a statement, the Polish Embassy tweeted, external: "We have been shocked by the murder of a Polish national in Harlow.
"Yesterday Polish consul conferred with local police in Essex. One of the lines of investigation is that of hate crime."
Harlow has one of the highest concentrations of EU nationals from eastern Europe, roughly one in 17 residents, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
The town is in the top 30 local authorities in England and Wales with the greatest proportion of eastern European nationals per population.

A vigil is taking place in Harlow tonight where a Polish man was killed in a possible hate crime.
The "Harlow Stand up to Racism, external" Facebook page is urging residents from the town to "show that people of Harlow will not accept hatred in our town".
"We will show that the people of Harlow want to live and work in harmony with their neighbours regardless of their race, religion or nationality," it reads.
The event takes place at The Stow from 19:30.
The Harlow Star has written a report on how residents feel about a murder investigation taking place in their town.
"It's usually such a quiet area," one local told the paper.

The Co-op in Samson Road, Brightlingsea remains boarded up today after a digger ripped a cash machine from the wall of the store during a ram raid yesterday morning.
A spokesman from the company said the shop suffered "substantial damage" and would not reopen until it was checked for structural stability.
The digger brought down part of the roof as it rammed into the shop, leaving a 10ft (3m) hole in the wall.
We have an update on Essex Police's murder investigation following the killing of Arkadiusz Jozwik in Harlow on Saturday.
A sixth teenager, who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of the murder, has been released on police bail. The 15-year-old boy will report back to police on 7 October.
Four other 15-year-old boys and 16-year-old boy, all from Harlow and also arrested on suspicion of murder, have already been bailed.

Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow, says he believes "almost every single person" in the town will be horrified by Saturday's fatal attack.
"All murder is evil, but if it is also true, as is being investigated, that this could be a hate crime, then it is all the more disturbing and shocking," the Convervative said.
Arkadiusz Jozwik, 40, died of head injuries on Monday. A 43-year-old man suffered hand and stomach injuries but has been discharged from hospital.

Not the best news you want to hear as rush hour gets under way, but Essex County Council says it has had to switch off the Army and Navy traffic lights in Chelmsford "until further notice" after a crash.
Extensive damage has been caused to both the traffic lights and crash barrier due to a collision at the roundabout, which is one of the busiest for traffic leaving and entering the city.
The council is warning people to leave "extra time for journeys over the coming days."
The flyover is not affected.
