I’ve not heard of any inappropriate calls today to our ambulance control rooms.

However, this year the service says it's had calls from people calling about an injured seagull, an injured squirrel and a hoax call about a "drowning goldfish".

    Say no more.

  7. Ambulance Live: The ups and downs of being a paramedicpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016

    Martin Barber
    BBC News

You might remember Larry from this morning. He couldn't apologise enough for "bothering" the East of England Ambulance Service crew after he fell and banged his head on a radiator.

Patients are not always as nice.

Yesterday, John (pictured) was called to a collapse in a cafe toilet. He went to assist and looked over the top of the door to be met by a hail of abuse from a man who was clearly a street sleeper.

    John the paramedic

"I'm only sleeping. Why don't you f... off, why do you care when I'm coming out," the person said.

He may have only wanted somewhere warm to sleep but of course that took John out of the system.

So while John was waiting to ensure the man could leave under his own steam, it meant he wasn't available to assist other patients potentially facing a life-threatening situation.
