    Clear spells will dominate during a humid night with a few showers and outbreaks of mainly light rain across the BBC East region.

    Tuesday will begin with cloud with any rain or drizzle becoming heavier for a time.

  5. One tonne of rubbish dumped in Chelmsford park - by councilpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    A one-tonne fly-tipping haul has been temporarily dumped in Central Park, Chelmsford, to highlight how big the problem of fly-tipping is in the county.

    Simon Walsh, from Essex County Council which is behind the stunt, said: "There were 17,547 separate incidents of fly-tipping countywide last year, costing taxpayers’ £1,093,907 to clear up – money that could have been better spent on vital services."

    The #CrimeNotToCare campaign has been launched by Love Essex, external - a partnership of councils, businesses and the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

    Cambridge United players worked hard to break down a solid defence to secure a 1-0 win over Colchester in League Two at the weekend, manager Shaun Derry said.

    "I was glad to see us get another clean sheet and it's good to win at home," he said.

    "Teams come here and sit deep and it's difficult to break them down, but we have a good talk at half time and then pressed the accelerator button."

    Uche Ikpeazu scored the winning goal midway through the second half to break the deadlock.

    The forward received the ball on the right side of the penalty box before cutting inside and firing into the far bottom corner after 64 minutes.

  10. Ram raiders strike at Earls Colne storepublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    Witnesses have been describing a major police operation in the village of Earls Colne near Halstead this morning.

    It's believed ram-raiders have struck at the local Co-op store.

    BBC Essex listener Phil describes what he saw: "There's what they call an 'all terrain telescopic', which is used on a building site or a farm, with its arm all the way out, sticking through the Co-op front wall, right through the cash-point.

    "A lot of police are here, they've shut the High Street off, because the machine's all the way across both lanes."

    The road has since reopened.

  11. 'Amazing experience' for first Bake Off contestant sent home from tentpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    One of the Essex contestants in the Great British Bake Off, who was the first to leave the new series, says it was still an amazing experience.

    Peter, who's 52 and comes from Southend-on-Sea, left after making a mistake with his coconut cake, and facing criticism over his illusion cake, which was dubbed "too simplistic" by the judges.

    He says he was thrilled to be involved: "It was an amazing experience.

    "Considering the fact I was short-listed among thousands of candidates, it was a great opportunity actually to make it to the tent."

    The county's remaining contestant, James from Brentwood, will be seen again on Tuesday evening on Channel Four, external.

  12. Anxious time for parents following changes to school transport provisionpublished at 10:17 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    A number of parents of pupils at the Cedar Hall School, external in Thundersley say they've been left helpless, after a contract change meant they're now having to arrange school transport themselves.

    Last year, children at the site, which caters for pupils with special needs, were able to get lifts for £5 a day, but that's now been stopped.

    Essex County Council, external says it's sympathetic, but is unable to cover the increasing costs.

    Tim Nicholls, from the National Autistic Society, external, said: "The impact of not getting the support you need to get your child to school can be really significant for a family.

    "It could be the difference between parents staying in work, or just in everybody being able to get where they need to be in the morning at the right time and being able to lead the life they want to lead.

    "It could lead to their children being later to school, missing education or arriving very distressed or anxious because the journey by bus has been subject to delays, diversion, or anything that's happened along the way."

  13. Man receives serious injuries in 'targeted' collisionpublished at 08:38 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    A crash involving a pedestrian and a car in Stansted Mountfitchet over the weekend was a "targeted" incident, according to police.

    They say the collision happened on Mountfichet Road on Saturday evening.

    A male pedestrian, in his late 20s, was seriously injured.

    A light-coloured hatchback, possibly a Volkswagen, drove off at speed towards Church Road.

    Witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw a light-coloured hatchback driving in the area at about 21:00, is asked to contact officers.
