As part of its bid to retain the rail franchise for the region, Abellio Greater Anglia agreed to boost rolling stock by more than 600 units (engines or carriages) built in Britain.

They will travel between Norwich, Cambridge and London through Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire.

The firm has also undertaken to reduce journey times. At least four 90-minute services (two in each direction) will be run between London and Norwich each weekday and two 60-minute services between Ipswich and London.

Facilities for commuters will also receive a boost with wifi available on the new units.

    Abellio's contract runs until 2025.
