  2. Mixed response to Reading takeoverpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

There has been very little response from Reading fans today to the club's takeover last night.

The announcement was made during their play-off semi-final, which Reading won to reach Wembley, so fans, understandably, are more focused on that.

One could almost say that was the point...

What reaction there has been though, has been mixed.

Francis FitzGibbon, the chair of the Criminal Bar Association, has told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the Lavinia Woodward case is "unusual".

He said: "This is a young woman… of good character. In other words no previous convictions and exemplary conduct, and perhaps even more significantly the judge said this was somebody overcoming drug addiction.

"The judge must take into account determination or demonstration of steps to address addiction so it sounds as though he’s giving her a chance and I think the judge would do that for anyone wherever they came from in the right circumstances.

"I don’t know if her future prospects are the critical factor in this. Maybe if she does really badly [on drug rehab] he’ll think again."

He added: "I definitely think it’s unwise to bash judges on the basis of particular remarks they’ve make when dealing with individual cases."
