  9. LISTEN: Meet one of Mrs May's more unusual opponentspublished at 01:03 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Linda Serck
    BBC South

As an experienced BBC journalist, I never thought I'd find myself interviewing a man with a huge black cylinder on his head.

But the news line is this: Lord Buckethead has been put on this earth to stand against Theresa May in her own Maidenhead constituency tonight – oh, and to bring back Ceefax. And I mean 'put on this earth' quite literally, as he claims to be from Hyperspace.

Talking like a well-to-do robotic alien, the Lord claims his spaceship is cloaked and parked in Maidenhead.

And before you ask, he is actually entitled to run as a candidate despite not hailing from planet earth.

    Media caption,

Lord Buckethead is standing against Theresa May in the Maidenhead constituency

His policies include "the abolition of the Lords, except me", "full facial covering must be kept legal, especially bucket-related head gear”, and "Ceefax must be brought back immediately", with "the Oracle and other teletext services to be rolled out by 2022."

On Brexit there should be a referendum about whether there should be a second referendum, and he would replace the idea of grammar schools with "gamma schools", with a firm commitment to boot any persistently naughty pupils into outer space.

I ask him his age in earth years, and after confessing that maths isn't his strong point, he calculates he must be about "9008-years-old".

    Lord BucketheadImage source, Lord Buckethead

While all this may get him more laughs than votes, he is far from being a casual joker who happens to have a spare £500 for a candidate's deposit. Lord Buckethead has in fact stood against two previous prime ministers: Margaret Thatcher in 1987 in Finchley and John Major in 1992 in Huntingdonshire.

Now it's Theresa May's turn. Lucky her.

Witney used to be considered one of the country's safest seats, but after the Tory leader stepped down his replacement Robert Courts was elected with a much reduced majority.

Sophie said: "The feeling has been that the Lib Dems are in a strong place at the moment and this could be the year they do it."

    Toby Wadey

If the exit poll is to believed, Conservative Alok Sharma in Reading West (majority of 6,650 in 2015) and fellow Tory Rob Wilson in Reading East (majority of 6,520 in 2015) could both be ousted by Labour.
