    The Henley Women's Regatta is under way on the River Thames and is celebrating its 30th year.

    The local regatta started in 1988 when it attracted 109 entries and held 97 races during a one-day event.

    Now it has grown into a three-day event with 1,800 entries, and has seen many of the women competitors go on to row for GB and win Olympic medals, including Katharine Granger, Helen Glover and Kat Copeland.

    The event is free and attracted 30,000 spectators last year.

    A man who was tied up by his sexual partner and left with a gas mask on his face died as a result of an "awful, tragic accident", a court has heard.

    Dohoon Kim, 36, from Slough, was found dead on the bedroom floor after meeting friend Kevin Adams, 52, at Mr Adams' home in Swindon for sex in June 2015.

    Bristol Crown Court heard the pair had taken drugs before engaging in "extreme" sexual activity.

    Mr Adams denies manslaughter by failing to ensure safety and wellbeing.

  4. Man dies after being struck by trainpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    A man has died after being struck by at train at the Tuckswell level crossing, external in Oxford.

    British Transport Police was called at 06:19 BST and say the man died at the scene.

    His death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Network Rail says some trains were diverted before normal services resumed at 07:50.

    Dramatic photos, external show the aftermath of a large heath fire in Dorset yesterday evening.

    Dorset and Wiltshire Fire control were called just after 18:00 BST to Arne Heath on the RSPB Purbeck Nature Reserve.

    The fire was put out just before 22:30 and all appliances and crew members left the scene at 02:30.

    Arne is home to a variety of wildlife including Dartford warblers, nightjars and as many as 22 species of dragonflies.

    Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, says he is "honoured" to be appointed minister of state for housing and planning by the prime minister.

    He said: "This is a big job and a role that matters to everyone, particularly young people trying to get on the housing ladder for the first time.

    "I look forward to working with councils, housing associations, developers and investors across the UK to make sure we are building the right homes and providing appropriate housing for all."

    Oxford United are yet to comment on the Daily Mirror's claim that head coach Michael Appleton is set to become Leicester's assistant manager.

    Appleton is friends with Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare - who recently signed a three-year contract - and the speculation follows failed talks over the ownership of Oxford United.

    A driver's Honda 4x4 left the M271 northbound near Southampton and overturned at the bottom of a bank this morning.

    Police said the "lucky" driver suffered a head injury which was not life-threatening.

    The accident at about 06:50 also involved a BMW car. No other injuries were reported.

    Person has been hit by a train between Didcot and Oxford.

    Great Western Railway say all lines have now reopened but there is still some disruption to their services.

    Thames Valley Police have revealed a letter sent to them by a seven-year-old Windsor school boy.

    It reads: "Dear Thames Valley Police, I just wanted to say thank you for protecting our community when there has been some attacks. I was very scared but when I saw the police and army were involved, I felt less scared. I am a local school boy in the area of Windsor and I am very pleased with the safety."

    Dorset Police is asking for help in naming their latest vehicle - a crime-fighting tractor.

    The branded tractor will be on the move at all major rural events this summer and it is hoped the vehicle will help police engage more with rural communities.

    PC Claire Dinsdale of the Rural Crime Team said: “It is vital we explore every opportunity in encouraging members of the public to report rural crime. It is only with this intelligence we can target and disrupt those who operate in the countryside.

    She added: "We’re looking forward to seeing a bumper crop of your corny and a-maize-ing suggestions for our tractor!"

  12. Long rail delays for passengerspublished at 08:07 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    A rail line was blocked for seven and a half hours last night while engineers repaired a section of track between Winchester and Micheldever.

    South West Trains said the line was closed at 18:55 BST.

    At 23:30 BST the firm said it was still trying to find replacement road transport for passengers stranded at stations between Southampton and Basingstoke.

    A 14-year-old girl from Oxford is still missing after more than two weeks.

    Chloe Maugham was last seen in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, at around 11:00 on Wednesday 31 May.

    Another possible sighting in Bicester, Oxfordshire, on Saturday 10 June has also been reported to pPolice.

    Detective Chief Inspector Clare Knibbs said she believed the 14-year-old, who has links to Blackbird Leys and Rosehill in Oxford, was still in Oxfordshire.

  14. Portsmouth cyclists gather to remember Tim Atkinspublished at 08:02 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Scores of cyclists have gathered in Portsmouth to call for improvements to the city's cycle network following the death of a rider earlier this month.

    Tim Atkins, 48, from Southsea, died following a crash involving another bike and a van on Eastern Road on 2 June.

    Members of the Portsmouth Cycle Forum who gathered in Guildhall Square raised concerns about the condition of the cycle path on Eastern Road and other parts of the city.

    Simon Bosher, Portsmouth City Council's cabinet member for traffic and transportation, said the findings of the police investigation would be used to assess what improvements were needed.
