    A deer has been rescued by fire fighters after becoming stuck in a private swimming pool in Berkshire.

    Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to London Road in Twyford after the home owner failed to coax the animal out on Sunday evening.

    The unit at Caversham Road Fire Station said it acted out of concern for the safety of the people involved.

    BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James has chosen to name the new Dorset Police tractor “Robocrop”.

    He said listeners had made “thousands and thousands” of suggestions after he launched a competition together with the force last week.

    Dorset Police said the vehicle, complete with a siren, has a top speed of 23mph (37km/h) and is "not built for response policing".

    A 19th Century violin has been taken out of a collection of historic instruments held by Oxford University and sent to a young Syrian musician living as a refugee.

    14-year-old Aboud Kaplon was forced out of his home in Aleppo and is now living in Lebanon.

    Film-maker Susie Attwood came across Aboud and saw his passion for music, but also his lack of an instrument.

    Oxford University has now lent the teenager the restored violin.

    A playful dolphin caused the Cowes Floating Bridge to be suspended for a period this afternoon.

    An onlooker filmed ferry staff pulling at chains, apparently to move the creature away.

    A car driver who seriously injured two of his passengers in a crash, leaving one unable to walk, has been jailed for two years and eight months.

    Matthew Sargant pleaded guilty at Southampton Crown Court to drink and drug-driving, possession of cannabis with intent to supply and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

    The court heard the 22-year-old, of High Street, Eastleigh, ploughed into a lamppost and tree in Templars Way, Chandlers Ford, in the early hours of 25 September.

    He was banned from driving for six years and four months.

  9. South West Trains passenger anger over 'hot trains chaos'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Angry South West Trains passengers have complained of "utter chaos" after travelling in cramped carriages with no air conditioning when some weekend services were cancelled.

    The rail provider blamed "a number of incidents" on the network, including a track defect near Totton on Saturday.

    South West Trains apologised and said it had provided updates to passengers.

    However, Gerald Gibson, from Salisbury, dismissed this as "complete and utter rubbish".

    A man has been charged with the murder of Carl Scott, whose body was found at a house in Winchester on 22 March.

    The 37-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, in Birch Court off Thurmond Road.

    Police said David Gray, 35, of no fixed address, would appear at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow.
