    Hampshire all-rounder Gareth Berg has signed a new one-year deal with the county, taking him through to the end of the 2018 season.

    The 36-year-old former Middlesex player has become a regular in all formats since joining Hampshire in 2015.

    "I'm enjoying my time," Berg told BBC Radio Solent. "There's a great squad, we recruited well last winter and there's exciting times ahead."

    Berg has taken 43 wickets in all competitions so far this season.

    A human skull was among more than 20,000 items found in Portsmouth Harbour during a major dredging operation.

    The water was cleared of 3.2m cubic metres of mud to allow new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth to dock.

    Shoes, sea mines and anchors were also recovered. The human remains uncovered were passed to police.

    A man has been charged with sexual assault and kidnap after a woman was allegedly lured into a bogus taxi and attacked.

    The alleged incident happened near Junction 9 of the M27 after the 30-year-old woman was picked up in a cab in Bedford Place, Southampton, at around 02:00 BST on Sunday.

    Elvis Williams, 57, of Mosaic Close, Southampton, will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

    A hospital building will close for up to 12 months due to fire safety problems in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire in London.

    John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford plans to move to 52 inpatient beds from its trauma unit following a review of their cladded buildings.

    The NHS trust overseeing the site said a "combination of fire safety factors with this building" make it currently unsuitable for inpatients.

    They plan to move patients by 4 August.

    A man who pretended to be a landowner to con people out of their money has been jailed for six years.

    Barry Leigh, from Gosport, duped his victims out of £600,000 by persuading them to buy land through his company Dream Coastal and Country Homes.

    The court heard how Leigh used his "skills of persuasion" to get victims to pay him for land he did not own.

    He was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court, having previously pleaded guilty to six out of 14 charges.

    Free deckchairs will not be scrapped at a Dorset seaside resort.

    Proposals to scrap free passes for residents over the age of 60 in Weymouth could have saved the borough council up to £7,000 a year.

    However, members of the policy committee unanimously rejected the plans at a meeting on Monday.

    The U-turn follows a consultation which showed residents were "keen" to retain the 30-year tradition, the report said, external.
