    Firefighters were called to reports of an accident in London Road in Chipping Norton at 10:06 today and found an overturned car on its roof.

    The occupants had been able to release themselves and were being treated by members of the public prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

    Crew manager Lewis Sigsworth said: “On this occasion the occupiers were very fortunate to only suffer minor injuries due to them wearing seat belts.

    "This highlights the importance of wearing your seat belt at all times.”

  3. Edmonds to sue Lloyds Bank for £300mpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    Noel Edmonds has increased his compensation claim against Lloyds Banking Group to £300m.

    The television presenter said he was a victim of a £245m loans scam from former HBOS staff in Reading.

    The former Deal Or No Deal host had originally been seeking in the region of £50-70m.

    But on Tuesday he confirmed that he would be ramping up his claim for losses allegedly suffered when his former business Unique Group was destroyed because of the "industrial scale" fraud.

  5. Man robbed after pool game in Readingpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to, external in connection with the robbery of a 23-year-old in Reading.

    Between 23:15 and 23:30 on 9 June a man was in the White Eagle pub on Oxford Road playing pool with an unknown man, before both men left the venue separately.

    As the 23-year-old was walking on Western Elms Avenue, he was jumped on by the man from the pub and another man. They assaulted him and took his wallet.

    The victim sustained cuts and bruises to his face, legs and arms but did not require hospital treatment.

    His wallet, which contained a quantity of cash and a cards, a Compax mobile phone and a silver neck chain were stolen in the offence.

  8. Cotswold Wildlife Park wolf may have climbed fencepublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    A wolf, which was shot after escaping from Cotswold Wildlife Park, may have climbed over an electric fence.

    An ongoing investigation by the park has found it was not properly charged.

    Managing director, Reggie Heyworth, said there was no obvious breach and it was possible she climbed over the barrier.

    The wolf was found just outside the park's perimeter fence and was shot by a member of staff.

    Mr Heyworth said they had no other option as they were too far away to use a tranquilser dart safely and effectively.

    Diesel trains have replaced steam traction on the Swanage Railway after a collision between two steam locomotives.

    The incident happened in an area not open to the public between the signal box and the engine shed at Swanage station during shunting operations on Monday morning..

    BMW's decision to build a fully electric version of the Mini at the Cowley plant in Oxford has been welcomed by Oxford City Council.

    It's leader Bob Price said he was "delighted" with the news.

    Oxford West and Abingdon MP, Layla Moran, has also praised the car maker's decision.

    "It will mean more local jobs and more green cars on the road", she said.

    Homeless people in Oxford who were told to remove their bags from doorways in the city centre, or face possible fines, were given two days to do so according to Oxford City Council.

    It said everything item was collected by the owners except for "a soiled duvet and pieces of cardboard" which were removed.

    The notices were attached to piles of bags and said fines of up to £2,500 could be issued if they were not taken away.

    The council said the abandoned bags posed a hazard to pedestrians and were blocking fire exits.

    An RSPCA inspector, called out to a report of a tarantula in an understairs cupboard, discovered it was no more than a plastic toy.

    Nikki Denham went to the property in Alresford, Hampshire, on Thursday, armed with gloves and nets, and spotted the spider's legs behind a vacuum cleaner.

    She said a close inspection with a torch revealed the true nature of the beast, to the caller's "obvious embarrassment".

    The toy was reunited with the woman's young son.

  17. Trouble ferry breaches noise limitspublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    A troubled chain ferry has been withdrawn from service at night after council tests revealed it was breaching noise pollution limits.

    The £3.2m Cowes "floating bridge" has suffered numerous problems since it entered service in May, including groundings and break-downs.

    Resident Jeremy Pocock said the noise of the prow hitting the slipway was like a "car crash".

    Isle of Wight Council, which owns the vessel, said noise levels were "well above World Health Organisation guidelines".

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man died in a crash in Weymouth.

    The crash involving a grey BMW 350d and a black Hyundai i30 happened on the B3157 Coast Road near to Rodden Lane on Wednesday 17 May.

    The driver of the Hyundai – a 37-year-old man from Portishead died at the scene.

  19. Electric mini to be built in Oxfordpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    A fully electric version of the Mini will be built at the Cowley plant near Oxford, BMW has confirmed.

    BMW said, external that the car, which will be a variant of its existing three-door model, would go into production in 2019.

    BMW said the move was part of a plan for electrified vehicles to account for between 15-25% of its sales by 2025.

    The carmaker said Oxford would be the main "production location" for the Mini three-door model.

    However, the electric motor will be built in Germany before being shipped to Cowley for assembly.

    The memorial to a Red Arrows pilot who died following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival in 2011 is being moved following a cliff landslip last year.

    The sculpture in memory of Flt Lt Jon Egging has been cordoned off since the slip at East Cliff in April 2016.

    Engineers have begun the work to remove it for cleaning before it is moved to its new location at the top of the East Cliff Zig-Zag path nearby.
