A round of applause for a very helpful hero who offered his 4x4 truck to anyone who needed help in the snow.

Oliver Blatch came to the rescue of Shane Clothier, who was stranded overnight on his way home from Dorchester.

Mr Clothier said: “I left Dorchester at 15:30 yesterday and arrived at the George Albert Hotel at Clay Pigeon, 10 miles away, at 23:30, after several tows by tractors and 4x4s.

“I abandoned my car at the entrance to the hotel.”

He then turned to social media for help.

“Sherborne News and Views [a Facebook page] offered me a hero in a chap called Oliver Blatch who drove out from Sherborne, pulled me off the entrance and got me back on the road.”
