  5. NI boss O'Neill hits back at Oxford Unitedpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 12 October 2018

    BBC Sport NI

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has dismissed Oxford manager Karl Robinson's comments in an on-going war-of-words over winger Gavin Whyte,

Whyte is currently with the NI squad preparing to take on Austria in the Nations League. The U's boss wanted him to be released from international duty to face fellow strugglers Plymouth on Saturday.

After that request was denied, Robinson questioned whether the call-up was "fair on fans, players and staff" at Oxford.

O'Neill said he was surprised by the comment.

    Quote Message

I thought the comment that Gavin is not an important player for us is a bit belittling of the player, given that Gavin was named in the original squad. I can guarantee you that if a club comes in for Gavin Whyte, the first thing Oxford United will say is that he's an international player.

  18. Northumberland Road crash: Latest from the scenepublished at 08:55 British Summer Time 12 October 2018

    Allen Sinclair
    BBC South Today

The scene of the collision is behind the normal police tape here on Northumberland Road, with a couple of officers manning the road blockage.

What we know is that a man has been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. It's pretty somber around here today, people are clearly taking what has happened very seriously.

This whole segment which has been cordoned off is outside Reading girls school - although the incident is nothing to do with children from the school.

There are three other schools on this road, so it's causing quite a lot of disruption on day-to-day life. The school will be closed for the whole day.

There's not a lot of activity inside the cordon, but the road is set to stay closed for several hours.
