The impact of a declining nightlife is having a "devastating" impact on taxi drivers in Oxfordshire, it has been claimed.

People are going out less than they used to - with the number of UK nightclubs falling from 3,144 in 2005 to just 1,733 in 2015.

Jaffa Hassan, who drives a cab in Bicester, said: "The night crew are really struggling, there's a big turndown in the amount of work they do.

"Whenever I go out, I am shocked by how quiet business is."

A woman has been been raped by a man on a patch of grass in Swanage, Dorset, having met him on a night out.

The woman, in her 20s, met the man in Bar One in the High Street before he attacked her at about 04:00 BST on Sunday in Hillview Road.

He is described as white, aged in his 20s and of medium build, with a beard and short light hair that is longer on top.

He is believed to have been wearing green or khaki-coloured trousers, a T-shirt and possibly had a tattoo sleeve on his right arm.

Commuters using South Western Railway (SWR) trains will face a reduced service for the rest of this week due to strike action.

Members of the RMT union are taking action in the long-running dispute over the use of guards on trains - walking out from today until Saturday.

A fire on the grounds of an historic 19th Century Grade II listed manor house in Hampshire has been extinguished, Hampshire fire service has said.

Police have named two people who died in a car which collided with two others as it was driven the wrong way down the M40 in South Oxfordshire.

John Norton, 80, and Olive Howard, 87, from High Wycombe, were in a car towing a caravan, which was travelling in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway on 15 October.

The road was closed for 15 hours between junction 6 for Watlington and junction 8A for Oxford.

Another car driver, Stuart Richards, 32, from Stockport, also died.
