A speed limit reduction on Weymouth's Preston Road has been given the go-ahead by Dorset councillors.

The decision to drop the B3155 from 50 to 40mph follows an increase in accidents on the road, including two fatalities - and five resulting in serious injuries.

The slower speed limit is expected to be put in place between the entrance to Lodmoor Country Park and Overcombe Corner.

It will cost £2,500 to implement and is expected to be ratified by the cabinet in December.

The body of a man has been found at Durlston Country Park in Swanage, Dorset.

Police said the 21-year-old was discovered shortly after midday yesterday.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed.

Soldiers from Blandford Forum - who lost their lives in World War One - are being remembered on decorated rocks hidden around the town.

The names of the 117 men have been painted on the rocks so finders can go online to learn more about the person they discover.

People are being asked to post a picture of the rocks they find on the Blandford Rocks Facebook Group, external and then hide them again.

The names of the fallen servicemen from the Great War 1914-1918 are inscribed on the two war memorials on the Town Hall in the Market Place.

A drama lecturer and sign language teacher are among 13 gold winners at the annual awards.

A poster advertising the Titanic's return voyage from New York to Europe has fetched £62,000 at auction.

It would have been displayed in New York, and most were destroyed after the liner sank on its way to the city from Southampton on 15 April 1912.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge described it as "one of the rarest Titanic posters in existence".

Organisers say they hope to keep visitors happy despite the Red Arrows missing the show.

The Red Arrows won't be part of next year's Bournemouth Air Festival.

The RAF's aerobatic display team has announced a tour of the United States next summer.

Organisers of the event said "like many other air shows" they were disappointed by the news and hope the RAF will allocate other aeroplanes to take part in the festival.

Staff on South Western Railway (SWR) will stage a five-day strike, the company has confirmed.

Workers from the RMT Union will walk out from 00:01 BST tomorrow until 23:59 on saturday - due to an ongoing long-running dispute over the role of guards on SWR trains.

The union has also announced intentions for four 24-hour strikes next month on 3 November, 10 November, 17 November and 24 November.

Woodstock Library is closed until further notice while Oxfordshire County Council undertakes structural repairs to the building.

During a recent routine inspection, problems with some of the walls at the library were found.

There is currently date for a reopening.
