    A skatepark in Hereford has been cordoned off by police investigating reports of an assault.

    West Mercia Police say a 17-year-old youth was assaulted in the skate park next to the Western Way and the Hereford Academy School by a group of other males, and suffered a head injury.

    He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released, police say.

  3. Licence plate auction held in Malvernpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    A three-day auction of licence plates is being held at the Morgan factory in Malvern.

    More than 1,500 distinctive number plates are up for grabs.

    A spokesman for the DVLA, who is running the auction, says a man has already driven from Chester and paid £4,800 for GR11 ACE which he is giving to his daughter Grace.

    The DVLA has been running such auctions since 1989 and has raised £2.2bn for the Treasury.

    The body of a Worcester pensioner who went missing while out fishing has been found in the River Wye in Powys. 

    Police say they're not treating the death of 80-year-old Bill Barratt as suspicious.

    Westfields FC are still hopeful they will secure the signature of the former Hereford FC winger Sirdic Grant, according to chief executive Andy Morris.

    Grant was one of the stars of Hereford’s impressive debut season in which they won the Midland Football League and League Cup double and reached the FA Vase final at Wembley.

    Visa restrictions mean he can’t play at a higher level and Westfields are looking to add him to their squad after he played for them in a pre-season friendly at Welsh club Caersws on Saturday, 16 July.

    A much-loved former teacher in Worcestershire, who died earlier this year, has left his pupils an unexpected present.

    A West Midlands MEP says he would back a return of the death penalty and wants the idea to be put to the British public in a referendum. 

    Bill Etheridge, who is standing for the leadership of UKIP, says it's time for an "open and frank discussion" on the subject.

    As well as calling for criminals to be sentenced to life in prison for a third violent offence, he also wants even more serious crimes, to face "the ultimate penalty".

    Worcester racecourse officials have been telling me their warm weather procedures will be in place for the meeting on Thursday.

    The eight-race card is due to get under way at 13:50 and the course’s general manager Jenny Cheshire says the welfare of the horses is at the heart of everything they do.

    Staff have been watering the track ahead of racing, while there will be extra veterinary staff on site as well as more drinking water at strategic places around the track.

    During the hot weather, more patrols will be staged around Gullet Quarry near Malvern by wardens from the Malvern Hills Conservators to warn people of the dangers of swimming there, police say, external.

    Two teenagers drowned in the quarry during the hot summer of 2013.

    Police say their Malvern Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be patrolling the quarry, which has fences around it and signs warning it is illegal to swim there.

    Yesterday the police were called to the quarry where a group of young people were swimming.

    Kidderminster Harriers' chairman Colin Gordon has proposed his club should play Hereford in an annual pre-season friendly.

    Gordon says the respective clubs' supporters trusts have offered each other invaluable support in recent difficult times for both clubs and the annual fixture would be a good way of recognising these efforts.

    The clubs are due to meet in a pre-season game at Aggborough on Tuesday, 26 July and the Harriers chairman says they would be happy to head to Edgar Street for a return game next summer.
