  2. 'World Cup win' number plate goes up for salepublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    A number plate with links to England's 1966 World Cup victory is being auctioned in Malvern today. 

    The WC66 ENG reg is one of 1,500 number plates going under the hammer at the Morgan Factory as part of a three-day DVLA sale which is expected to raise up to £4m in all.

  3. Driver caught doing 154mph on M5published at 09:06 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    A driver was caught doing more than 154mph on the M5 early this morning.

    That's more than double the legal speed limit for the motorway - the car would have been travelling more than 4,500 yards or 4km every minute.

    Photographs chronicling the history of a Worcester school have been unearthed by the widow of a former teacher.

    Dennis Fisher's wife Janet found more than 250 old Samuel Southall Secondary Modern School photos dating back to the mid 1960s that her husband had kept; and was going to take them to the tip but then decided to give them to an ex student.

    The photos have already been viewed on Facebook more than 20,000 times.

    Kidderminster Harriers have announced their scheduled pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday has been cancelled.

    This is because Rovers picked up a number of injuries in a warm-up match last night and so say they would be unable to field a side.

  13. More money to restore cathedrals awarded from WW1 fundpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    The cathedrals in Hereford and Worcester have been awarded more than £800,000 in total to carry out urgent repairs.

    The money will go towards restoring stained glass windows in Worcester and fixing part of the roof in Hereford. 

    The money comes from grants awarded by the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.

    There are now three separate lane closures affecting traffic going north on the M5:

    - A broken down vehicle is partially blocking the carriageway and traffic is very slow between J10 (Cheltenham) and J8 (M50)

    - There is slow traffic between J8 and J7 (Worcester) because of emergency repairs

    - One lane is blocked by a broken down vehicle between J5 (Droitwich) and J4a (M42)

  17. Village poised to get new primary schoolpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2016

    A new £6m primary school is set to be built in Colwall to replace the Portakabins where the 200 children are currently being taught.

    Since September, children have had lessons in a number of temporary classrooms because of a major damp problem in the old school, thought to have been caused by an underground stream.

    Today the council's cabinet will discuss buying a site at Mill Lane in the village to build a new school - the money will come from the government's school's fund.

    There is a lane blocked and very slow traffic on the M5 northbound between J5 (Droitwich) and J4a (M42) because a vehicle has broken down in the roadworks area.

    Another northbound lane was already closed between J8 (M50) and J7 (Worcester) to allow emergency repairs.
