  1. Junior doctors strike: Calls for fresh industrial actionpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    Junior doctors could hold more strikes across England next month after representatives called on the BMA union to authorise more action in their dispute over new contracts.

     The junior doctors committee (JDC) of the BMA says ministers have failed to address concerns about the contract.

    Junior doctors and medical students voted in July to reject a deal on the contract agreed with the BMA.

    Daniel Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, warned industrial action would achieve "little or nothing", but placed "pressure on already stretched teams and services and causes worry, distress and disruption for patients, carers and their families".

  4. Fake court built for law studentspublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    A mock-up of a court is being built at the University of Worcester, external, designed to help train law students and give them a flavour of the real thing.

    It features benches for judges, barristers, defendants, witnesses and members of the press, like a working court.

    There is also a jury room next door to simulate the real court experience and a number of seminar rooms.  

    It is expected to open at the Jenny Lind building next month in time for the new academic year and the first intake of students on the new law degree.

  5. 'No chance' of police force mergerpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    The new chief constable of West Mercia Police has ruled out any possibility of a full merger with the Warwickshire force.

    The two forces formed a strategic alliance three years ago to help make savings. 

    The new man in charge Anthony Bangham says there is "absolutely no likelihood" of a merger and they must keep their own identities.

  6. Evesham rower Gregory targets goldpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    Alex Gregory, from Evesham, is due to compete in the finals of the men's four in Rio this afternoon.

    Gregory, Moe Sbihi, George Nash and Constantine Louloudis won their semi-final three minutes and 53 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.  

    In case you were interested, when they're in full training mode, each of them consumes 6,000 calories a day.

  7. Man criticises mental health servicepublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    A Worcestershire man has criticised how slow local mental health services were to respond, after he contacted them and said he was thinking of taking his own life. 

    Former driving instructor Marc Ford, who's been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, says after only being offered a phone call and questionnaire, he turned to other therapies. 

    "I had a phone call interview with the NHS two weeks afterwards, after the event. Now with the greatest respect I could have been done and dusted. I could have gone. They could have been ringing nobody."

    Worcestershire Health and Care trust, external says it's disappointed Mr Ford feels he had a poor experience and has a dedicated team to respond to urgent mental health issues within hours.

    Kidderminster's Naomi Folkard says she is proud of getting to the last eight despite missing out on a medal in the archery at Rio 2016

    She went out of the women's individual archery at the quarter-final stage after losing to Chang Hye-jin.

    Folkard said she was looking forward to coming home and described what her Olympic experience had been like.

    "It's a little bit rough and ready, but it's still got the atmosphere of an Olympic Games and it's all about the sport. It doesn't matter that not everything's ready. It's all about the performances and the really good matches that are going on."

    If they mange it, it will be largely thanks to Worcestershire's Moeen Ali, who scored a magnificent 108 on a day that England's top order once again crumbled.

    After solid partnerships with Bairstow and Woakes, the Worcestershire all-rounder then gave a masterclass in batting with the tail end as the home side finished the day 328 all out.
