    A teacher from a Worcester school has won a prestigious teaching award. 

    Elly Lengthorn is a geography and science teacher from Nunnery Wood High School and has received the title of Global Educator of the Year award. 

    She's involved with running workshops with pupils on hunger, poverty and sustainability.

    The family of a disabled man from Kidderminster who has a life-limiting illness are trying to organise Christmas Day for him for next week.

    Henry Smith, 22, sees life through the eyes of a four-year-old. His family were told in February his heart was failing and that he was nearing the end of his life. 

    His mother, Diane, says one thing he has always loved is Christmas, but that time was against them. 

    "He absolutely adores Christmas. We've always wanted to get a sleigh and a horse for him, but we couldn't manage to get one... so we've been trying our hardest now to try and give him his wish and just to make the Christmas as magical as we can."

    Kidderminster archer Naomi Folkard, at her fourth attempt, has made it through to her first Olympic quarter-final.

    She upset the crowd by beating the Brazilian competitor by six sets to two.

    Her quarter final will take place at 19:39.

    The mayor of Ross-on-Wye says it is "great news" it has been voted the country's most-loved market town.

    Herefordshire also has another town in the top 10 of the poll by National Express, external with Ledbury coming in at number seven. 

    David Ravenscroft says it is the location and variety of things in Ross-on-Wye that makes it so special.

    "We've got lots of specialist shops in the town... and we've got some beautiful scenery around, around the town, particularly the river and some of the historic buildings. 

    "We've got lots of good hotels and guest houses [which]... you can use as a base really for exploring the Wye Valley."

    A woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being found on a riverside following a serious assault.

    The woman in her 40s was discovered with multiple injuries near Acacia Avenue in Bewdley following the incident between about 18:10 and 18:30 yesterday. 

    A 29-year-old man from Kidderminster has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, West Mercia Police, external said.

    Evesham rower Alex Gregory has made it through to the final of the men's four at Rio 2016, after winning his boat's semi-finals in six minutes and 17 seconds.

    Gregory, Moe Sbihi, George Nash and Constantine Louloudis were never in danger at the Lagoa, crossing the line three minutes and 53 seconds ahead of second place. 

    The final will take place tomorrow afternoon.
