    A Baptist minister has been asked to step aside from his role as a Police Chaplain after he spoke out about child sexual exploitation in Telford. 

    Keith Osmund-Smith has been the force's Shropshire-based Chaplain for the past nine years but has been told to leave his post until the New Year or face suspension. 

    He told the Daily Mirror, external he had doubts information passed to officers about child sex exploitation was always acted on.

    West Mercia Police confirmed an internal investigation was taking place but declined to comment further.    

    Mr Osmund Smith does not want to comment but it's understood that he's very sad and disappointed by the way he's been treated.

    Christopher Bartlett has gone missing in Worcester

    There are concerns for a vulnerable man who has gone missing in Worcester. 

    Christopher Bartlett, who has Downs Syndrome, was last seen in the Dines Green area around 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

    Police say he may have gone into the city centre, possibly making his way to the railway station.

    Mr Bartlett is white, 5ft 3in and of stocky build. He was wearing a green T-shirt underneath a blue and white check shirt with dark blue or black jogging bottoms when he was last seen.

  9. Police crackdown on motorists using phonespublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

    There's going to be a crackdown by West Mercia Police, external on motorists using mobile phones at the wheel.

    The force says it's going to carry out checks on the road over the next few weeks, using unmarked cars and also wants to educate drivers about the dangers.

    Driving while using a mobile phone was made a specific offence in 2003 and is punishable with a £100 fine and three points on your licence.

    West Mercia says that if it catches drivers with no previous mobile phone convictions, they will be offered a presentation on the risks as an alternative.

  10. Herefordshire hunt suspects bailed until Februarypublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

    Five people arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty at a kennel belonging to the South Herefordshire Hunt have been re-bailed.

    West Mercia Police are continuing investigations after a video, secretly filmed by activists, appeared to show fox cubs being taken into a shed where hounds were kept, before being brought out dead.

    They will now remain on bail until February.

  11. Sunday third busiest day of year for 999 callspublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

    Sunday was the third busiest day of the year for 999 calls, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service, external.

    In total, the Trust received 3,591 emergency calls across the region, compared with 3,154 the weekend before.

    Managers blamed a combination of Halloween, Diwali, a payday weekend and an extra hour, due to the clocks going back.

    They praised staff who "worked incredibly hard to ensure patients continued to receive excellent care".

    Only New Year's Day and 19 July, when temperatures soared, were busier.

    Police in West Mercia need to do better to improve the experience of victims of crime, the police and crime commissioner says.

    "At times we don't cover ourselves in glory," John Campion said.

    Today he launched the Safer West Mercia Plan, external, outlining his vision for policing in the area.

    It includes using technology better, "stopping the slide of increased response times" and making sure there were enough specialist staff to do the job - armed response, counter terrorism and serious organised crime officers, among others.

    A family who found a snake in their car while driving on the M5 are now using mice and an electric blanket to try to entice the creature to come out.   

    Claire Brierley had to pull over while driving through Worcestershire last week after discovering a five-foot-long corn snake wrapped around the legs of her dog in the car she'd just bought. 

    It turned out the snake, known as Keith, belonged to the previous car owner, who hadn't realised where he was hiding. 

    Four days on and Claire still can't use her new car because Keith is refusing to come out.

    Halloween revelers across Herefordshire and Worcestershire are being asked to keep a look out for so called "witch marks".

    Historic England is asking members of the public to help create a record of ritual markings on buildings that were once believed to ward off evil spirits.  

    These markings on timber beams at The Commandery in Worcester are thought to have been made to ward off evil influences.

    The Herefordshire-based actor John Challis says he's delighted people get so much pleasure from Only Fools And Horses, which has topped a new chart of the most-watched programmes over British TV's 80-year history. 

    Challis played Boycie in the show, which attracted more than 24 million viewers for an episode in 1996 when Del Boy finally became a millionaire.
