    A campaign group has called for a review of Worcestershire's main hospitals to be put on hold following the death of an eight-year-old boy who had to be taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, despite living on the doorstep of Redditch's Alexandra Hospital.

    Callum Cartlidge died soon after arriving at hospital. He suffered a cardiac arrest at home after developing suspected sepsis, sources told the BBC. 

    He had been discharged from hospital less than 24 hours earlier.

    Paramedics were allegedly told to take him 18 miles (29km) to Worcestershire Hospital and not nearby Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, which  stopped admitting children to A&E in September.

    Campaign group Our NHS Worcestershire is planning a protest at the meeting of the Redditch and Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning group next week.

    There are delays on trains between Redditch and Lichfield after an earlier incident.

    Operator London Midlands warned, external trains may be delayed by more than 30 minutes, or cancelled.

    Local trainers will have horses running on the second day of the Cheltenham Festival.

    Byton trainer Kerry Lee is due to send out Top Gamble (pictured) in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, while the Michael Scudamore-trained Kingswell Theatre is due to run in the cross-country chase.

  4. Ambulance service confirms Twitter hackpublished at 08:57 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed its Twitter account was hacked this morning. 

    The tweet which went up at around 07:00 carried text supporting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is in a feud with Germany and the Netherlands.

    The post was deleted shortly afterwards.

    The ambulance service says it's now removed the post and changed its passwords and security settings. 

    Other Twitter accounts also appeared to have been hacked overnight, external including the BBC North America account which tweeted at 07:39, external : "Hi everyone - we temporarily lost control of this account, but normal service has resumed. Thanks."

  5. Parents of boy who died from a brain tumour lobby MPs for more research published at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    The parents of a boy from Worcestershire who died from an aggressive brain tumour are calling for more money to be spent researching the condition.  

    Finlay Church from Alvechurch was just 11 when he died in 2015. He had been diagnosed just 17 months earlier.

    Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer but get just 1% of the national spend on research.

    His parents, Wayne and Penny, say people need to be aware of how quickly the condition can end someone's life.

    A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after being thrown over the handlebars of her bike, the ambulance service say.

    West Midlands Ambulance say it was called to Bates Hill in Redditch just before midday.

    The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care.

    No other vehicle was involved, the police say.

  10. Stephen Woolley: Family of missing man raise money for charity published at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2017

    The family of a man whose body was found in the River Severn after he had been missing for 12 weeks are raising money in his memory for a support charity.

    Stephen Woolley, a 55-year-old retired bank manager,  went missing from his home in Kidderminster  on 6 December.

  11. Warriors' fans wig tribute: Other players with 'distinctive' hairstyles published at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2017

    Some Warriors' fans at Sunday's crucial relegation game against Bristol were wearing curly wigs in tribute to the distinctive hairstyle of the flanker, Chris Vui.

    The player called their tonsorial tribute "pretty cool", but he'll have to go some to won the title of rugby's most outstanding hairstyle.

    The Severn Valley Railway is celebrating its Spring Steam Gala this weekend and a number of visiting locomotives have been arriving on the back of lorries this week.

    Earlier this afternoon this BR Standard 9F was delivered to its Bridgnorth station by the Great Central Railway.

    It has been described by the Severn Valley Railway as "one of the most powerful steam locomotives in Britain" and it's one of three making a guest appearance.

  13. Rugby: Warriors' player 'honoured' by fans' wig tributepublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2017

    Flanker Chris Vui says he was surprised but honoured to see Warriors' fans donning curly wigs as a tribute to his distinctive hairstyle.

    There were plenty of the wigs to be seen in the crowd at the Warrior's crucial win in the relegation showdown against Bristol at Sixways on Sunday.

    A lorry became stuck in a narrow road in Worcester, something a local firm said is becoming "a regular occurance".

    Park Street in Worcester was blocked for about three hours, according to Sutcliffe & Co Insurance Brokers, who took this photo.

  16. School WW1 project gets 10k lottery grantpublished at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2017

    A Worcestershire primary school has received £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help mark the centenary of World War One.

    The project, called Grimley and Holt Remembered, will see members of the local community sharing items such as photographs and letters from the war to form an online archive.

    Pupils at the primary school will design some replica stained glass windows for the local church, as well as getting the chance to visit the battlefields of northern France and Belgium.
