  1. Concern of body image in young girlspublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    BBC Hereford and Worcester

A Worcestershire primary school head teacher says insecurities over body image could be to blame for a drop-off in young girls getting involved in sports.

Researchers say two thirds of young girls are put off taking part in PE and sport by the time they're nine years old.

    Quote Message

We are finding a real concern among our girls, even Year 4 - so we are talking eight, nine - becoming far more body aware, far more body conscious of themselves."

  4. Concerns over Worcester City stadium bidpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Justyn Surrall
    BBC Hereford and Worcester

There are concerns a bid to build a new stadium for Worcester City Football Club could be permanently shelved.

Plans for a 4,400-capacity stadium next to the leisure centre failed to win backing at the council's planning committee yesterday, with the Conservative chair, Chris Mitchell, having the deciding vote.

Rob Crean from the club's supporters' trust spoke to BBC Hereford and Worcester.

    Quote Message

We put in what we thought was a very robust application that was supported by the planning officer for the recommended approval. If it isn't here it won't happen and the club will not exist, that's just the bottom line, that's always been the case and it hasn't changed.

  5. Trapped driver airlifted to hospitalpublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

A man was left trapped in his car for about 30 minutes after a crash in Evesham, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Crews were called to the junction of Leys Road and Evesham Road in Harvington, just after 17:35 yesterday. They found a car lying on the driver’s side and in a ditch.

Ambulance service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "The driver, a man in his 80s, was trapped as a result of the damage suffered to the car and ambulance staff worked closely with the fire service to free him through the passenger door."

The man was treated for injuries to his head, face, arm and back and was suffering from a slightly reduced level of consciousness, Mr Arrowsmith said. He was taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The passenger in the car, a woman in her 80s, was treated for a minor abdominal injury and taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

  6. Worcestershire boss relieved with important Championship winpublished at 09:06 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    BBC Sport

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes admits his side could not have picked a better game to rediscover their winning habit than by beating Division Two promotion rivals Kent.

The four-wicket win, achieved by their third-ever biggest run chase as they piled up 401-6 on the final day, lifted them above Kent into second place.

But it also ended an untimely hiccup after their winning start to 2017.

"At one stage we were winning all the time and that doesn't last," Rhodes said.

"Hopefully this will just show people we are very determined to make sure we see the season through."

  7. Worcester City vow to fight stadium planning decisionpublished at 08:45 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    BBC Hereford and Worcester

Those behind a bid for a new stadium for Worcester City Football Club say they won't give up, after it failed to win planning approval.

The club and its supporters wanted to build a 4,400-capacity ground on Perdiswell Park, but failed to get the go-ahead in a knife-edge council vote yesterday. A final decision will be made after a report.

Rob Crean, from the club's supporters trust, says he feels "angry" with the decision that he says was made on "political grounds" - particularly after it had been recommended for approval by planning officers.

He said the club needed to have its own stadium to survive and that they would now wait for the written guidance behind the decision.
