  12. Cricket: Kent toil in the heat against Worcestershirepublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Matt Cole
    Sports Editor, BBC Radio Kent

Kent have again relied on their tail to add respectability to their first innings score.

At 139-7 when Darren Stevens went for a characteristically combative 39, Worcestershire’s seamers seemed ready to deliver the coup de grace their excellent work deserved.

A 79-run partnership between Adam Rouse (34) and Matt Coles (47*) held them up in entertaining fashion, and got Kent to their first bonus point.

19-year-old Josh Tongue has again impressed with the ball, adding 3-47 so far to his career best six-wicket haul from the Pears’ previous game against Glamorgan.

With some variable bounce and life, this pitch is far from the New Road “road” many predicted at the start, and any score north of 275 is starting to look like a decent total.
