    The money raised by a Herefordshire woman who died of a rare form of thyroid cancer will be used to fund a trial for patients with the same disease.

    Emmy Coates was diagnosed with the disease last year aged 30 and later died at her home in Hampton Bishop.

    The fundraising campaign that she inspired has since raised £125,000 for a second trial using blood cells rather than tissue.

  2. Armed police make arrest over axe and knives findpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    A man was carrying an axe and knives in Kidderminster on Sunday night, say police who arrested a male near a Territorial Army centre in connection with the incident.

    West Midlands Police said the arrest - by armed officers - is being investigated by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, supported by West Mercia Police.

    The force says "there is no suggestion of any threat" to the site.

    The arrested man, 23, remains in police custody and enquiries continue.

    The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion, external says his "thoughts and prayers" are with those affected by an attack at a mosque in north London.

    It's after a man was killed and 10 others injured when a van was driven into them near Finsbury Park Mosque.

    Mr Campion says the way the attack was carried out during Ramadan makes it "more evil".

  4. Warning over 'suspicious' white van in Worcesterpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    People in Worcester should remain vigilant, external following two incidents involving suspected bogus traders, police say.

    Officers are investigating reports of three men attending an address in Vigornia Avenue last Thursday afternoon and offering to repair the occupants' roof.

    One of the three men claimed there was rotten wood that needed replacing before accepting £150 from the victims before leaving the area without carrying out any repairs.

    It is believed the same men also attended an address in Wylds Lane and demanded cash in the region of £1,200 to complete roof repairs before leaving empty handed after the occupant refused to pay.

    West Mercia and Warwickshire Police say they have plans in place, external for a "visible uniformed presence" at local mosques.

    It's after a man was killed and 10 others injured after a van was driven into them near Finsbury Park Mosque in north London overnight.

    The forces say they will be "engaging" with Muslim communities to provide reassurance in the aftermath of the attack.

    An investigation is continuing after dozens of fish were killed by pollution in an Evesham stream.

    The Environment Agency says raw sewage had affected a kilometre of Blackminster Brook, killing approximately 20 Trout, over 100 Chub and Dace and a number of smaller species.

    Although further pollution has been stopped from entering the water the agency remains on site to monitor the brook.

    A "personalised service" for victims of hate crime has been launched by police in West Mercia and Warwickshire.

    The forces say they wants to encourage more people affected to come forward after discovering only half of hate crimes are reported to them.

    The scheme sets out the specific role that police officers will play in responding to hate crimes.

    A minute's silence has been held in Worcester to remember the victims of a fire at a tower block in west London.

    Police say 79 people are either dead or missing presumed dead after the blaze erupted at Grenfell Tower last week.

    The 30-year-old suffered a cracked vertebral but has indicated he plans to compete in the next round.

    A mother from Droitwich has criticised the way London Midland dealt with a train accident last month in which her son lost his arm.

    Dominic Preece, 17, had his arm amputated after falling on the the track at Droitwich Spa Station.

    His mum Kerry says she's disappointed with the way the train company responded to a fundraising campaign she set up to get Dominic a prosthetic arm.

    London Midland says it's offered to help the family with transport costs, but it would be inappropriate to donate to the fundraising effort while an investigation into what happened is ongoing.

    It was a bad day for Worcestershire in their eagerly anticipated One-Day Cup semi-final against Surrey as they were thrashed by 153 runs.

    Going into Saturday's match Worcestershire had been in superb form and it was perhaps symptomatic of their fortunes that in-form batsman Daryll Mitchell went for 0.

    Only Brett D'Oliviera and Ross Whitely put up any resistance, with Surrey spinner Gareth Batty finishing with five wickets.
