  1. Controlling groups merge to form new alliance

    Two of the groups which control Herefordshire Council have strengthened their alliance by combining to form a new political group.

    Herefordshire Independents and It's Our County will now be known as Independents for Herefordshire.

    The two parties formed a coalition with the Green Party after the elections in 2019 to run the authority.

    Councillor John Harrington will chair the new group and described it as "practical and progressive".

    He said they will work together to fight the next council elections in two years time.

  3. Cricket: Bears and Pears set for first fans in months

    Crowds will return to watch both Warwickshire and Worcestershire in action in the County Championship today.

    The members will be back at New Road, Worcester, for the first time in 20 months for their home game with Derbyshire.

    Warwickshire were allowed to stage a test event last summer but their game with Nottinghamshire will be the first with spectators this season.

    The Bears' chief executive Stuart Cain says a lot of the people they expect today will be their members.

    "People who really supported us last year by donating their membership at a time when they could not come and see live cricket, so for us this is a big thank you to those loyal fans," he said.

  4. Oxygen appeal raises more than £15,000

    Nine oxygen concentrators worth more than £15,000 have been sent to India after an appeal by 40 Rotary clubs in the West Midlands.

    The money was raised in two weeks and members are now raising money for another 32.

    Clubs taking part include those across Birmingham, north and south Warwickshire, north Worcestershire and Coventry.

    Heart of England Rotary District treasurer Robert Rainbow said: “We have been totally overwhelmed with the amount of support this appeal has received."

  7. Fallen wall causes road closure

    A Worcestershire road has been closed due to a collapsed wall.

    The wall came down on Lansdowne Crescent Lane today.

    Worcestershire County Council Highways said the road would remain closed while officers work to make it safe.

  8. Woman sexually assaulted by group of men

    Police have appealed for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted by a group of men in Kidderminster.

    The woman was attacked while walking in the Broom Crescent and Dovedale Avenue area of the town at about 18:30 on bank holiday Monday, 3 May, police said.

    "We would especially to like to identify a family that the victim spoke to at their home in the same area following the incident who offered her support," a West Mercia Police spokesperson said.

    Anyone with information was urged to contact the force on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
