    Percy Wilmott

Percy Wilmott was out shopping with his daughter on Friday when somebody broke into his home and ransacked it, taking his war medals.

Percy, who fought in North Africa during the Second World War, says all five of his medals have been stolen and he feels betrayed:

"The very fact these young people can come round and know there's an old soldier living in this house and there are his medals and 'I think I'll take them', it doesn't make sense that they should do that to us old folks," he says.

    Quote Message

Anybody listening out there who feels this way, there is no room for you in our society. Pack your bags and go somewhere else, we don't want you here, we don't want you in our country, we don't want you attacking our society, we don't want you to attack and kill our people."

Last November, Historic England rejected calls to give it Grade II-listed status, saying it "falls short of the high bar for listing post-war public art".

  16. Number of people applying for nursing courses fallingpublished at 08:38 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

There's concern fewer people are applying for nursing courses in our area.

It comes after an NHS bursary was scrapped, which means that anyone starting a course from August will no longer receive extra financial support.

The Royal College of Nurses say since this happened, there's been a 23% fall in the number of people applying for courses across the country.

The government says the change is due to nursing courses being oversubscribed and the cost-saving measure will help fund more places for nurses.

    Quote Message

A lot of the people I trained with were mature students with children at home so they absolutely relied on the bursary and if they scrap the bursary we're not going to get mature students coming through which is needed in nursing. You need life experience."
