    An application to demolish the Lord Line building (pictured) and Grade II listed Hydraulic Pump House and Tower in Hull has been rejected.

    Councillors voted against plans by the owner this afternoon.

    Hull City Council says structural reports did not demonstrate that the buildings are unsafe and therefore demolition isn't needed to make them safe.

    The council also noted it received a number of objections from the public and Historic England who believe development would cause harm to heritage assets.

    The owner didn't attend the meeting.

  2. Council 'hopeful' over Thames Ambulance improvementspublished at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    North Lincolnshire Council says it will continue to push for improvements to the area's patient transport service.

    It comes after concerns about the performance of Thames Ambulance Service, which provides transport taking people to and from hospitals and surgeries for treatment.

    The council met with Thames and the local Clinical Commissioning Group yesterday to get an update on the company's performance.

    Holly Mumby-Croft, chair of the North Lincolnshire Health Scrutiny Panel, says the council will "continue to hold them to account, to do it in public and to bring to the public's attention what's going on with Thames":

  3. Chennai Six: First of group arrives home in UKpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    The first of the so-called Chennai Six has arrived in the UK, more than four years after the former soldiers were jailed in India on weapons charges.

    Billy Irving (above) was one of five men imprisoned in 2013 on charges of smuggling weapons and ammunition.

    The group, who had been guards on a ship to combat piracy in the Indian Ocean, won an appeal against their convictions last week.

    Mr Irving, from Argyll and Bute, arrived at Glasgow Airport earlier.

    The others - Nick Dunn, John Armstrong, Nicholas Simpson, Ray Tindall who is originally from Hull and Paul Towers from Pocklington - are expected to arrive in the UK tomorrow.

    The Brexit Secretary and Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis, has faced criticism from a Parliamentary committee, after he admitted that the government hadn't carried out assessments on the economic impact of Brexit.

    Mr Davis, who was appearing before the Exiting the EU Committee, insisted the analysis wasn't as straightforward as some people imagined.

    A decision is due today on whether to knock down Hull's historic Lord Line building.

    The owner wants to demolish the landmark and a nearby Pump House on St Andrew's Dock.

    It's been empty since the 1970's and is now derelict, but the proposals have been recommended for refusal.

    Six former British soldiers, including Paul Towers from Pocklington and Ray Tindall who's originally from Hull, have started their return to the UK.

    The men have been held for more than four years after they were jailed in India on weapons charges. They won an appeal against their convictions last week.

    A lost camera found on a tiny German island has been recognised as belonging to a young boy from East Yorkshire.

    William lost the device while filming him and his sister at Thornwick Bay back in September.

    The tide carried it 500 miles away but the camera was still working and the footage was shared on social media where a family friend spotted it.

    A charity says homelessness among children in Yorkshire will hit the highest level it's been in a decade this Christmas.

    Shelter is blaming the country's worsening housing crisis.

    It says more than 700 children in Yorkshire will be homeless over the festive season.

    There are claims gangs of teenagers on mopeds are making a Hull estate unbearable to live on.

    People who live around the Greenwood Avenue area (pictured) of the city say some young people destroy gardens, burgle homes and terrorise residents on a nightly basis.

    Humberside Police says it will take action against anyone found to be behaving in this manner and says it's part of the Moped Nuisance Initiative - which works with other agencies to identify those involved.

    The force is urging people to report any issues or concerns they have.

  13. Bid to turn Humber Bridge into world's biggest digitial artworkpublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    A bid's been put in to install 70,000 LED lights on the Humber Bridge.

    The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership put in the bid and claim it would turn the bridge into the world's biggest digital artwork.

    It's one of 11 bids made for a share of £15m through The Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund.

    You might remember back in August the villagers of Atwick successfully campaigned to get their red phone box replaced after it was destroyed in a crash (pictured below).

    Atwick Parish Council, BT, residents, and MP Graham Stuart are now joining together to celebrate the replacement of the Atwick red phone box (pictured below) with a grand opening on Friday at 16:00 on the village green.

  15. Turner Prize winner praises 'friendly' Hull peoplepublished at 08:43 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Last night it was announced that Lubaina Himid (pictured) has won the Turner Prize.

    The 63-year-old Zanzibar-born, Preston-based artist won the £25,000 prize for work addressing racial politics and the legacy of slavery.
