    Problems with a private ambulance service which provides non-emergency transport in Hull and across Lincolnshire are expected to be debated in Parliament today.

    There have been complaints that some patients have missed appointments while others have been left stranded in hospital because they weren't picked up by the Thames Ambulance Group.

    Brigg and Goole Conservative MP Andrew Percy is due to hold a debate on the issue in the Commons later.

    Thames Ambulance Service says improvements have been made.

    A three-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital in Leeds after being hit by a van in Hull.

    A woman was pushing a pram across Holwell Road, near the North Point Shopping Centre in Bransholme yesterday morning at about 08:30, when a white van ran in to her, the pram and the little girl.

    A one-year-old boy and the woman also suffered minor injuries.

    The van driver was questioned, but wasn't arrested, say police.

    East Yorkshire's Kyle Edmund will take on Denis Istomin in the Australian Open tomorrow, following on from his impressive first round win over Kevin Anderson.

    The Briton, 22, from Beverley, beat South African 11th seed Anderson over five sets on Monday.

    He faces Istomin - the world number 60 from Uzbekistan - at about 02:00 on Wednesday for a place in the last 32.

    An ambitious 30-year public transport plan for the North is expected to be outlined in Hull later this morning.

    Transport for North, a group made up of politicians and business leaders, will discuss seven transport "corridors of opportunity" for boosting the region's economy.

    The announcement in Hull is one of six events happening simultaneously in cities across the North.

    Police are continuing their investigations after the body of a man wanted for murdering his neighbour with a crossbow was found in North Yorkshire.

    Shane Gilmer died and his pregnant girlfriend suffered serious injuries at their home near Driffield, in East Yorkshire, following an attack on Friday night.

    The body of Anthony Lawrence, their neighbour and the man wanted in connection with the murder, was found in a vehicle in Hackness near Scarborough on Sunday evening.

  10. Hull MP calls on government to protect BAE Brough jobspublished at 17:47 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

    The government says it's doing all it can to secure more orders for Hawk jets to help protect jobs at BAE Systems in Brough.

    In the Commons, the Labour MP for Hull North, Diana Johnson, warned that the UK might not be able to supply the next generation of Red Arrow jets unless action is taken.

    In October 2017 it was announced that 400 jobs would be cut at the East Yorkshire site, which makes the Hawk training jet.

    The Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said: "We are working hard to secure orders for the Hawk aircraft and will continue to do so."

  11. Book of condolence for East Yorkshire crossbow victimpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council has opened a book of condolence for Shane Gilmer, who died following an attack at his home in Southburn, near Driffield.

    Mr Gilmer, 30, was employed by the authority, along with his pregnant girlfriend who suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident on Friday.

    The council says its flag is also being flown at half-mast.

    Police have released this image of a man they want to speak to after an elderly woman was conned out of £300 in Hull.

    Officers say the man claimed to be from the council and told the woman she would have to pay £300 to have her tree cut down or she would be "in trouble".

    After handing over the money, the woman found the man had gone and had done no work.

    Police are appealing to anyone who saw the man in the Pearson Park area on Thursday, 28 December to contact them.

    More than £1,000 has already been raised in memory of Shane Gilmer, the man who died following a crossbow attack at his home in Southburn, near Driffield.

    A fundraising page has been set up to help pay for Shane's funeral.

    The man wanted in connection with Shane's murder has been found dead by police.

    He was being hunted by police for the murder of his neighbour Shane Gilmer and the attempted murder of Laura Sugden.

    Three Hull MPs have written to the Prime Minister to ask her to intervene over cuts to specialist treatment for chronic pain in patients in Hull and East Yorkshire.

    More than 80 patients have been told that their Pain Infusion Therapy (PIT) will be reduced before ending completely in a year's time.

    People living in an East Yorkshire village have been speaking of their shock after a man was killed and his pregnant partner was injured in an attack at their home.

    Police have found a body in the search for 55-year-old Anthony Lawrence, the man wanted for the attack.

    The search for him was launched after Shane Gilmer was found injured at his home in Southburn, near Driffield.

    He had suffered fatal injuries and died in hospital on Saturday.

    Laura Sugden suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident.

    One man who lives nearby told the BBC: "It is a concern. It comes as a shock."
