  2. One city, 365 days: Book celebrates Hull City of Culturepublished at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2018

    A new book celebrating Hull's year as UK City of Culture is available from today.

    The limited edition book is called 365 and contains 200 pages of photographs and poems reflecting Hull's 2017 season.

    More than 3.5 million people attended City of Culture events in Hull last year, according to the city council.

    Hull was the second city to be given UK City Culture status, following Derry-Londonderry in 2013.

    All profits from the book will be used to help fund new cultural events and activities in Hull.

    People are being urged to get their creative thinking caps on ahead of this year's Tour de Yorkshire.

    Tourism organisation Welcome to Yorkshire is asking people to submit their ideas for what is known as land art - the large artistic creations created along the route of the race.

    Last year a giant mage of Branwell Bronte riding a bicycle was voted the best

    It was 260ft x 210ft (80m x 60m) and was made with the help of local schoolchildren at Haworth Primary School, West Yorkshire.

    For the first time this year the race will be run over four days in total, from 3-6 May.

    Two spineless hedgehogs found wandering in the street are being cared for by wildlife experts.

    The pair, discovered in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, are believed to have a genetic disorder which means they are smooth rather than spiky.

    They are now being looked after by staff at the Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary in North Yorkshire.

    A cyclist from Hull who was involved in an accident earlier this month has died.

    Margaret Roundill, 56, had stopped on her bike at the junction of Beverley Road and Springbank when she was hit by a red lorry.

    The truck failed to stop and was later found in South Yorkshire.

    Police are renewing their appeal for information.

    They say a number of pedestrians were in the area at the time and anyone who saw what happened is asked to get in touch.

    Humberside Police has announced a week-long knife amnesty starting today.

    Bins will be placed in numerous police stations for people to drop knives into without having to fill in forms or speak to anyone.

    Dozens of guns and knives were handed over during the last weapons amnesty.

    Brexit Secretary and East Yorkshire MP David Davis has dismissed claims made in a leaked report that East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire's economy will be hit hard by Britain leaving the EU.

    Regional analysis suggests the Yorkshire and Humber economy could shrink by 7% in the event of a "no deal".

    But Mr Davis, who represents Haltemprice and Howden, says the figures may prove to be wrong.

    Chalet owners at Humberston Fitties, near Cleethorpes, say they'll barricade the gate this morning to stop workmen clearing an area of green space.

    They fear the new landlord, Tingdene, will cut down trees on part of the site which residents see as a wildlife garden.

    North East Lincolnshire Council says there is no agreement with any person or group that the area should be protected.

    Tingdene says it's cleared a significant amount of fly-tipped rubbish and dangerous objects from the plot as they posed a risk to the public.

    A driver's being treated in hospital after being seriously injured near Hessle at the weekend.

    The 20-year-old was driving east on the A63 towards Hull when the car left the road and landed on the adjacent railway line.

    The vehicle caught fire shortly after.

    The A63 was closed for much of the day for recovery and investigations.

    Police are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.

  13. Search for new manager under way at Grimsby Townpublished at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2018

    Grimsby Town are looking for a new manager this morning after sacking manager Russell Slade following the weekend's 3-0 defeat at Crawley and a run of 12 games without a win.

    The 57-year-old joined the club in April last year.

    He leaves with the club 17th in League Two, 16 points off the play-off places and nine points above the relegation zone, having not won since 9 December.

    Paul Wilkinson has been placed in temporary charge of the side while the Mariners search for a new first-team boss.

    A club statement acknowledged, external the team had been "extremely unlucky" recently.

    East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire is home to some of the most dangerous junctions in the region, it's emerged.

    Three separate junctions on Spring Bank in Hull appear on a "most dangerous" list curated by Road Safety Analysis Limited.

    The highest placed is the junction at Stanley Street, which saw a total of 18 crashes between 2012 and 2016.
