    Passengers had to evacuated from a Hull Trains service earlier due to reports of a fire.

    The 10:30 train from Hull to London had to stop at Welwyn North where passengers were led to safety.

    British Transport Police said all passengers were being transported by road to London Kings Cross.

    Major plans to upgrade the TransPennine rail line between Hull and Manchester have been set out.

    At an event in York, Network Rail and transport secretary Chris Grayling announced plans to introduce digital technology across the rail network over the next decade.

    It would mean trains could travel faster and more regularly, they said.

    Beverley's Kyle Edmund has secured his place in the world top 20 for the first time, with a win over David Goffin at the Madrid Open.

    The British number one followed up his win over Novak Djokovic yesterday with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the third round.

    Edmund will face the winner of an all-Canadian clash between Milos Raonic or Denis Shapovalov in the quarter-finals.

    Police are hunting a man who pushed a woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her in Barton-upon-Humber.

    Officer say the woman was left with scratches to her chest and face following the assault on Far Ings Road near Waterside Road on Thursday 26 March.

    The man is described as white, about 6ft tall with short brown hair.

    Police want anyone with information to come forward.

    An MP has said the law around the sale of crossbows should be toughened up, after a man was killed in a crossbow attack in East Yorkshire.

    Shane Gilmer, 30, (pictured) died after being attacked in his home in Southburn, near Driffield, in January.

    The suspect, his neighbour Anthony Lawrence, 55, was later found dead.

    Rachel Maskell, the Labour MP for York Central, has written to the home secretary urging the government to introduce tougher regulations on weapons such as crossbows and air rifles.

    Her call is supported by Humberside's Police and Crime Commissioner.

    In a statement, the Home Office said: "Crossbows are subject to strict controls and retailers are banned from selling them to a person under the age of one-year-old."

    A crackdown on so-called "boy racers" in Hull has been a huge success, police have said.

    Officers took action following complaints about drivers speeding, playing loud music and behaving antisocially at a shopping centre car park off Holderness Road.

    Humberside Police say 39 actions were taken over two nights against drivers for a range of offences.

    A festival celebrating up-and-coming artists begins in Hull today.

    The Grow Festival, external will run at the Hull Truck Theatre over the next three days.

    It hopes to build on the success of Hull's UK City of Culture year.

    There will be a series of events and performances which are designed to develop and inspire local artists.

    The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, visited the city last year to bestow Minster status.

    The 700-year-old building has also undergone a major renovation over the last year.

    The celebrations begin on Saturday.

    But a group has now come forward to put on a parade next year after first throwing a carnival party this summer.

    Humberside Police say a wedding ring and expensive watch (pictured) were among the high value items taken during the burglary at a house on Cliff Gardens.
