    Three children have been arrested in connection with a fire in Grimsby.

    Humberside Police said the fire, which broke out on Castle Street on Monday 30 April, may have been started deliberately.

    The children have been questioned and released under investigation, the force said.

    Staff at Northern are staging their 24-hour walk-out in a dispute over the role of guards.

    Northern said a majority of its services would run between 07:00 and 19:00 but "many routes will start to wind down from late afternoon".

    A terminally ill man from East Yorkshire is aiming to break a world record and complete his biggest challenge to date.

    Jason Liversidge, from Rise near Hornsea, has advanced Motor Neurone Disease and is almost completely paralysed.

    The 42-year-old has already abseiled down the Humber Bridge and climbed Snowdon.

    His next challenge is beating the land speed record in an electric wheelchair.

    To do that he will need to reach speeds of 55mph.

    A cyclist received minor injuries after he was pushed off his bike in Hull.

    The man was riding along Beverley Road at around 12:00 last Wednesday when he was passed by two men on a motorbike.

    Police said one of the riders leaned over and pushed the man from his bike.

    Beverley's Kyle Edmund has beaten 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open.

    He won two sets to one, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and will now climb into the world's top 20.

    Kyle will now face eighth seed David Goffin in the third round.

    A woman had liquid sprayed in her face when two men broke into her home in Bridlington.

    Two men broke into the house on Bright Crescent at around 04:00 on Sunday 6 May.

    The men sprayed the liquid at the woman before stealing money, a bank card and cigarettes, officers said.

    Officers say the liquid smelt of petrol and caused a minor irritation to the woman's skin.

    Mums-to-be in East Yorkshire are going to be offered a vaccine to protect their babies against whooping cough.

    The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust claims to be one of the first to offer the jab in a hospital setting.

    Women will be able to have the vaccination after they go for their 20-week scan.

    The number of racially and religiously-motivated hate crimes reported to Humberside Police has almost doubled in the last five years.

    New figures, obtained by the BBC, show the number of reports stood at 239 in 2013, but in 2017 had rise to 461.

    Humberside Police said it has dedicated officers who work within minority communities and encourages victims to come forward with any concerns.

    The force said the rise is partly down to more people reporting incidents of hate crime.

    The figures were revealed after the BBC sent a freedom of information request to all the police forces in the UK.

    East Yorkshire's Kyle Edmund is facing Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open, after easing to victory over Russia's Daniil Medvedev.

    Edmund reeled off eight straight games to win 6-4, 6-0 in one hour 17 minutes yesterday.

    He will likely enter the world top 20 should he beat 12-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic today.

    People, who fought to try and retain a minor injuries unit in Hornsea, will open a volunteer-run first aid centre in the town later.

    The town's Minor Injuries Unit closed last month as part of a reorganisation of urgent care across the East Riding.

    The new first aid station has been created in a supermarket car park and will be run by volunteers.

    Staff at household waste recycling centres in Hull and East Yorkshire are taking part in a second week of strike action over sick pay.

    Unison, external members claim some staff at FCC Environment, external, the private company which runs waste services for local councils, are not given sick pay but others are.

    About 20 workers have set up a picket line outside the Wilmington waste recycling site in Hull.

    In a letter to staff, seen by the BBC, FCC Environment said it was making every effort to "resolve the issues" amicably.

    It continued: "We feel that the benefits and services offered by FCC are good and that this is supported by the high level of staff retention across FCC as a whole, but in particular across the Hull and East Riding contract."

    Staff at Hull College are taking part in strike action in a row over plans to axe 231 jobs.

    Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, has started a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit.

    The University and College Union (UCU) said it had resorted to taking industrial action because of the college's plans to cut "a third of the workforce".

    Judges for the UK Museum of the Year competition are at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull later today.

    The gallery is one of five venues on the shortlist for the prestigious award.

    The winning venue will be awarded a £100,000 prize and the other shortlisted museums will receive £10,000 each in recognition of their achievements.

    The winner will be announced in London on Tuesday 5 July.

    Residents at a care home in Beverley had to be evacuated last night due to a fire.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue says it happened at Figham House nursing home shortly before 20:00, when paper and magazines caught fire and spread to some curtains.

    One man was taken to hospital suffering the effects of breathing in smoke, but the fire was contained to one bedroom, the fire service says.

    Rail passengers in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are facing more disruption on Northern services as staff take part in more strike action.

    It is the latest action by members of the RMT union in the long-running row over the role of guards.

    The union says scrapping guards and introducing driver-only operated trains risks passenger safety.

    But the rail company has insisted the move is safe and already widely used.

    Northern says it plans to operate 1,300 services today, but about a third of journeys will be disrupted.
