    An 18-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by a van on the A27 at Chichester.

    Emergency services were called just after 01:00 BST today.

    The pedestrian was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition, say Sussex Police.

    A man and a teenager have been arrested after a 4x4 was used to ram-raid the Co-op in Shoreham High Street in the early hours.

    Sussex Police said nothing was taken in the attempted break-in at about 01:30 BST, but two vehicles were suspected of being involved.

    Officers later stopped a Daihatsu 4x4 and a Mercedes Sprinter on the M25 near Leatherhead in Surrey.

    A man and a boy were arrested

    A 17-year-old boy from Woking was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis, driving with no licence and driving with no insurance.

    A 26-year-old man from Epsom was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when asked to do so by police and attempted burglary.

    Both remain in custody.

    Southeastern released this picture of the flooded railway line yesterday

    Severe weather yesterday caused flooding between Maidstone Barracks and Maidstone West - and it's led to morning rail services being affected.

    Southeastern says this has led to extensive damage to line side equipment, meaning that the line will be blocked until about 10:00 BST.

    Network Rail workers pumped more than 30,000 gallons of water from the track and track bed overnight.

    Souyheastern says the following alterations will apply to High Speed services from Maidstone:

    • 07:23 Maidstone West-St Pancras will start from Strood at 07:41
    • 07:53 Maidstone West-St Pancras will start from Strood at 08:11

  18. Distinctive bracelet taken in East Sussex burglarypublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Thousands of pounds worth of jewellery has been stolen from a house in Barcombe, near Lewes.

    The burglary happened on Wednesday 18 April.

    Thieves smashed a back door to get into the property and took several items including this distinctive bracelet.

    Other items taken include two 24-carat gold signet rings inscribed with a capital 'D' and the date 09/02/1970 and matching cuff links and gold pocket watch.

    Police are alerting dealers and retailers to be suspicious of any such items they may be offered.
